Interestingly enough, by bending their knees to Trump, they'll wind up following a course much closer to the ideals their party espouses.

Very true, they are a weak lot. However, the saving grace is: "following a course much closer to the ideals their party espouses."

Trump will take over what ideals the party espouses. Sure they'll follow that, but maybe it is good that followers follow. Now, will Trump make good decisions? We shall see.

We all know that Trump isn’t a movement conservative, so we can almost guarantee that he’s going to do or say some things that rankle us from time to time.

I’m steeling myself for that, but what’s most important to me (and the country), is that he gets it right on the big things like illegal immigration, trade, taxes, and trimming the waste, corruption, and overspending in Washington.

We can probably suffer the lesser departures if he corrects the structural issues.
