On the first floor of NRA headquarters, a large glass and steel building that looms over I-66 in the ambivalent suburbs of Fairfax, Virginia, exists the National Firearms Museum. It is free and open to the public. After a brief visit, I highly recommend that instead of ever going to the museum, you do what roughly 19,000 responsible gun owners do each year and shoot yourself. Itâd be far less painful.
The museum was initially built in 1935 and moved to Fairfax in 1998. Allegedly, it "details and examines the nearly 700-year history of firearms with a special emphasis on firearms, freedom, and the American experience." Really, it's a monument to rash, unreflective violence and willful stupidity.

Wow. I went to that site and read the whole screed.
Essentially, (for the author), you have to be interested in the topic of the museum in order to enjoy it. If not, then your enjoyment of the material on display will be dampened proportionally to your lack of enthusiasm for the topic.
The museum was the National Firearms Museum, not the National Museum of Bad Sh*t Done With Firearms.
The heritage celebrated is one of being able to fight back against whatever evil is at hand.
As for the topic which might interest the writer, might I suggest looking for some place which celebrates psychopathic slaughter, perhaps that has a wing for Islamic terrorists, since they seem so versatile in their choice of weapons and firearms aren't the writer's cup of vitriol.
No wonder the sicko writing the article was disappointed.

For a good gun history of the US read the novel “Unintended Consequences” by John Ross.
Very hard book to get, used to get it at the gun shows. The hardback now sometimes costs over $400. but I got a paperback last year for $44.00.
Explains the freeper tagline, “go Galt, not adverse to going Bowman”

Years ago, the Harold’s Club in Reno, NV had a really good gun collection. The casino closed years ago, don’t know where its gun collection went.
