Former Vice President Dick Cheney, who served alongside former President George W. Bush, issued a bold criticism of Republican presidential contender Donald Trump Monday, saying the billionaire âsounds like a liberal Democratâ when it comes to the Iraq war and 9/11.
âYou heard at the debate Saturday Donald Trump accuse President Bush and his team of purposefully lying the country into war in Iraq, saying, âI will tell you they lied, they said there were weapons of mass destruction, there were none. They knew there were none.â Your response?â Fox News anchor Bret Baier asked.
The former vice president was quick to voice his feelings, telling the âSpecial Reportâ host that not only does he believe the billionaire businessman is wrong, but he also said he âsounds like a liberal Democrat.â
âHe sounds like a liberal Democrat to me, Bret. Heâs wrong and I think heâs deliberately promoting those views in order to advance his political interests,â Cheney said.
Regarding Trumpâs claim that the Bush administration âliedâ about having weapons of mass destruction, Cheney cited the investigation by the Robb-Silberman Commission, telling Baier that âthey found no evidence whatsoeverâ to support the GOP hopefulâs assertions.
As for Trumpâs comments during Saturdayâs debate that Bush did not keep the U.S. safe because âthe World Trade Center came down during [his] reign,â Cheney argued there was ânothingâ that could be done.
âOn the notion, for example, that the president failed to act before 9/11 to stop it, we had no actionable intelligence at that point. It simply wasnât available. There was nothing we could have done and we didnât have intelligence at that point to suggest other than thereâs a general kind of a threat,â Cheney said.
The former vice president went on to defend the polices he and Bush instituted, saying that the Bush White House did âkeep the nation safe for 7 1/2 years.
âThe president put in place important programs, the terrorist surveillance program, enhanced terrorist techniques, all of those things gave us the information we needed to be able to act, and we had the tremendous support of the American military, they did a superb job,â Cheney added.
Cheney added that Iraq was in âgreat shapeâ when he left Washington, D.C. As for what has happened since, the former vice president placed the blame on President Barack Obamaâs policies.
âWhat happened then was that Barack Obama came to town, withdrew presence from that part of the world, and ISIS emerged after that. Youâve got to tell the whole story if you want to focus on those events. And, of course, Mr. Trump never does,â Cheney said.
Cheney told Baier is it âhard to tellâ if Trump is a Republican, but ultimately said he would support the GOP presidential nominee. However, he says Trump wonât be selected if he continues to act the way he is.
âIf he continues operating the way heâs operating, as a liberal Democrat, I donât think heâll get the nomination,â he said.

Dick Cheney sounds like Angela Merkel on gay marriage and open borders.
Dick Cheney lied when he said Dubya got 44% of the hispanic vote.
Cruzoids are actually doing what they accuse Trump supporters of doing. Namely. trolling and perma-posting blogs and Blaze trash. Glenn Beck is a flake and Dana Loesch has sold her soul to the flake who signs her check.
That’s the truth and sadly it ignores Obama’s foreign policy disasters..its like we’re in 2008 again.
I LOL’d at this pretty good. Thanks. :)
And also, unrelated to your comment, thanks to Dick Cheney. We should run him for President. I’m sure his full-throated defends of the Bush Doctrine would usher in 8 years of “conservative” rule. Again. So we’d get 8 years of more open borders and 2 trillion dollar wars. Again.
GO CRUZ!
Tell me the difference between Howard Dean and Donald Trump on the issue.

Dick Cheney:”We don’t need unity all the time”

Dick Cheney:”Pander to hispanics and you will get 45% of the vote”
That loud 250,000 rpm whirling sound are Trumpet Freepers who are having a hard time spinning Trump’s liberal positions, most end with the sentence....”yeah but he will build the wall” HA HA HA!!!
Donald Trump says his worst fault is that he holds a grudge too long. When he starts declassifying the records of the Clinton and Bush(2) administrations, Dick Cheney is going to regret pissing off Donald Trump.
And dickie sounds like a Chamber of Commerce, Cheap Labor King.
Trump is a liberal opportunist. We need a strong conservative voice.
Like the Left, you don’t distinguish from War and Nation Building. Donald Trump supported Obama’s Trillion Stimulus package that outspent what was appropriated for Iraq.
Mr. Cheney the wheel has turned and your turn is over.
That’s what MoveOn.org says too.
As a loyal (at the time) Republican, I supported the Bush Doctrine and the war, but I remember a whole lot of conservatives who were dead set against it. So it wasn’t just liberal democrats. And lots more conservatives have spoken out against it since. Especially now that the entire region is in chaos. As the infamous saying goes, mistakes were made. Minds change.
And Donald Trump doesn’t when he admits to violating federal laws hiring illegals to work at his golf course and hotels?
Move on.org is part of the Clinton cabal, so they should watch their step as well.
No the one that sounds like a liberal democrat is queer “marriage” loving, warmonging neocon Dick Cheney, who lied through his teeth to get this country into a war that should have never been started in the first place. You draft dodging POS.
