'And he's got an awfully big wall at the Vatican, I will tell you.'
Trump reiterated his months-long contention that 'we're going to build a wall, and Mexico's going to pay for the wall. And that's the way it is.'
When Cooper reminded Trump that 'people do come and go through the Vatican, and it's open to tourists,' Trump pounced.
'They're going to come and go through the wall' he will erect on America's southern border, he said, 'but they're going to come and go legally. And that's what I want, and that's what a lot of people want, obviously.' The global leader of the Roman Catholic Church told reporters early Thursday en route to Europe after a visit to the U.S.-Mexico border that 'a person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not in the gospel.'
Minutes later Trump had taken a harsh line, saying the Pope was 'disgraceful' for declaring he was not a Christian.
But he shrugged hours later, suggesting that 'somehow the government of Mexico spoke with the Pope, I mean they spent a lot of time with the Pope. And by the time he left he made a statement.'
'I didn't think it was a good thing for him to say, frankly,' Trump jabbed.
'I don't like fighting with the Pope. I don't think this is a fight.'

The leader of Roman Catholicism condemns someone opposing a Bush family member while in Mexico.
Cruz has to be wondering how he too can provoke the Pope.
‘Gosh darnit! I wish he had said that about me!’
History in the making.
I don’t think any pope had been so humiliated in modern times.

[Trump is captivating Europe, my FRiends. He is becoming a symbol in Europe’s anti-establishment rebellion. His courage is contagious.]
In the meantime the European Establishment [with muslim influence] is trying to scapegoat Israel ...

That’s right. Israel is to blame for Europe’s [muslim] refugee problem. /sarc
The Tzar’s ruling class tried to do the same thing during the Communist revolution. History repeating itself. Hitler later exploited Trarist conspiracy theories to build his Nazi party.
I thought it was great to point out the pope’s hypocrisy. We’ve had spineless politicians for too long that never even defend themselves. Trump is a true leader. With testosterone included - something we’re not used to.
“What is suspicious is that he said it 2 days before a key primary vote. Trump has been saying it for a long time. Granted he is just now visiting Mexico, but still. Is he ignorant of the fact that we are in the midst of primary season and his comment would be big news, aiding two Catholic candidates?”
I was wondering that myself. Waiting until right before a primary is suspicious. Even more suspicious is even saying anything at all about a candidate - he has no business getting involved in our political process. But it seems PINOs tend to do that.
That is true. The Pope shouldn’t have entered the debate, and my opinion is that mocking the Pope isn’t a very intelligent thing to do...just because.
As I’ve said before, if the Pope wants to inject himself into politics, excommunicate Pelosi, Biden, and others who push abortion.
Somehow I think this event of denouncing Trump was worked out with Obama and the Mexican government.
By Francis’s own standard he is not a Christian with his wall and zero immigration policy at Vatican city.
This Hopey Popey is to the left of Bernie Sanders.
I've never heard him speak about salvation. He's Liberation Theology light.
Just die quietly, already!
Yes, the Pope should totally but out of US politics, and perhaps focus on saving souls and Christians in the Middle East. But in this instance he responded STUPIDLY to a reporter’s question based on the current US presidential primary season and the Pope’s visit to Mexico. One has to stretch mightily to think it was in any way meant to benefit or harm either Rubio or Bush, the 2 Catholics running. That’s tinfoil hat territory.
Gimme a break. Shame on the Pope.
We don't need more bridges - we need big tall walls.
Walls are mentioned in the Bible numerous times....Bridges...not even once!
It would be hilarious if he says the vatican wall is 50 ft high! Our wall is only going to be 40 ft high!
Classic! I guess that other guy wants to help hitlery.
No bridges in the Bible whatsoever? Interesting.
