Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump reacted strongly to Pope Francis' criticism of his immigration policies as "not Christian" this afternoon, calling Francis' questioning of his faith "disgraceful."
But today's battle comes after Trump himself has spent days repeatedly questioning the faith of his biggest rival, Ted Cruz.
"I've never seen anybody that lied as much as Ted Cruz," Trump said at a press conference Monday. "And he goes around saying he's a Christian. I don't know, you're going to have to really study that."
At a Tuesday rally in North Augusta, South Carolina, Trump said Cruz "holds up the Bible and then he lies about so many things."

All this followed a tweet from last Friday wondering about Cruz's evangelicalism:
How can Ted Cruz be an Evangelical Christian when he lies so much and is so dishonest?- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 12, 2016
Pope Francis criticized the Republican candidate in a statement Thursday morning at the culmination of his trip to Mexico. Informed of some of the rhetoric Trump has used regarding immigrants and his proposal to build a wall across the U.S.'s southern border, Francis said Trump's actions were "not Christian."
"A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian," Francis said. "This is not in the gospel."
Trump responded moments after the pope's comments were released. "No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man's religion or faith," Trump said in a written statement.

You don't think; I may not have seen it the last time you posted that same list to me?
Projectile spew alert. Arf-Arfing about Arfing alert.
Reminds me of a chick I seen in a movie once.
Lies of omission - think about it.
You don’t like it so you want to make it about me.
And the basis for that is because he doesn't include The Donald's more recent versions, of and about his own (The Donald's) words, shown to have come out of his own mouth?
At least you didn't barfbarf at me this time, other than to repeat the same damn accusation while expecting me to go sit through interminable minutes of YouTube vids so that I can go prove your own argument FOR YOU.
The first at random sample didn't do the trick and I already told you why. The first time.
Try something else. This tack is making your efforts here to sail so closely to the wind (calling Cruz a liar -- in comparison to The Donald-- Ha! ya' gotta' be kidding me!) have you badly slip to lee.
To sail that close you need a deeper keel.
And now you're stuck not being able to claw your way off a lee shore. Maybe some opening, or bay will open up, if you could just parallel the beach for long enough....
Hey, I know. Start scouting around for where it looks like there may be good holding ground, and drop the hook. Anchor. Drop anchor. wait for the winds to shift, and the tide may turn towards your favor too. Check the tables...consult ship's chronometer.
Trump didn’t wear “the only principled conservative in the race” like a priestly garment. Trump didn’t write a book titled “A Time For Truth”. Ted Cruz did that. That’s where Ted set the bar before it came crashing down.
No one expected Trump to be anything but Trump.
That may serve as anchoring locale for a little while, but I should remind you --- some places on the bottom (shallow seafloor) as can be well known among locals -- are places where the hook drags...
Cruz was illuminating what Trump could be like, the parts of the real The Donald The Donald would much prefer people not be thinking on too much.
I intend on voting tomorrow (early voting in my State). I know how I'm going to vote.
If it doesn't work out, come general election I could probably talk myself into supporting a person I hold little trust for. And I do not mean the Bern, or Arf-Arf Her thighness.
The State I'm in is not a winner-take-all State, but has a combination of factors, including by congressional district. Which means my own vote could possibly count. A little, but only that.
