It took less than 48 hours for the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia to make its way into an attack ad in the 2016 election, with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz warning that businessman Donald Trump cannot be trusted to nominate Scalia's replacement.
In a new television ad entitled "Supreme Trust," a narrator ticks off a list of issues that have come before the Supreme Court.
"Life, marriage, religious liberty, the Second Amendment. We're just one Supreme Court justice away from losing them it all," the narrator says.
The ad then cuts to footage from Donald Trump's interview on "Meet the Press" in 1999 where he says, "I'm very pro-choice" and says he would not ban partial-birth abortions.
"We cannot trust Donald Trump with these serious decisions," the narrator warns. See the ad here:
The Republican candidates agree that the Senate should block President Obama from naming a successor to Scalia until a new president is elected, but Cruz opened up a line of division on just who would be qualified to pick a new justice. Cruz has made Trump's past support for abortion rights a frequent issue in the 2016 campaign, and it is likely an effective line of attack in the evangelical-rich state of South Carolina. Voters go to the polls Saturday.
I think that is the point Cruz is trying to make.
We've seen Republicans with much more conservative resumes than Trump turn to the left.
ONE of whom tried to crucify ROY MOORE for displaying The Ten Commandments.
I was plugging my nose a month ago.
Now I’m out.
I can’t, in good conscious, vote for Cruz. Ever.
I’d rather this nation burn under a Democrat than a Republican.
My hope--as one who has tried to remain neutral, while encouraging both Trump & Cruz (Support For Trump & Cruz);\, my hope, I say, is that Ted Cruz may be persuaded to take down this sort of ad--and fire the staff person who designed it--and Trump may be persuaded to stop assailing Cruz as he has been, the last few days, in response to this sort of attack.
We cannot win the coming election, without both complementary segments of the broader Conservative orientation, working together.
Again, pointing out that Donald was not focused on ideological issues back in 1999, is a fair point. Trying to imply that he is not reliable now, because he did not wake up to how bad things were until later than Cruz, only invites an ongoing exchange of nasty insults that will diminish the stature of both.
Trump is pro-life.
Cruz dirty tricks reported everywhere
Except Fox
Cruz jumped on it within hours.
The body wasn’t even moved yet.
“Cruz is making it very difficult for me to consider him my second choice.”
Same here. I never knew Cruz was this dishonest.
So he became MORE pro-life...
And?
Is that what you want?
I want someone who is deeply committed to stopping the killing of unborn babies in this country.
It’s the main thing that has weakened the moral fiber of our society.
You know that there are many who feel the same way about TRUMP... so there ya go.
GO BERNIE GO
GO HILLARY GO!
Romney is a severe conservative.
He said so himself.
“I was plugging my nose a month ago.
Now Iâm out.
I canât, in good conscious, vote for Cruz. Ever.
Iâd rather this nation burn under a Democrat than a Republican.”
Your ok. A primary vote for cruz is ultimately a vote for hitlery or bernie anyway. The guy would get crushed in the general. A reagan like landslide for the dem candidate.
Oh nose, not another nasty wittle anti-Twump ad from Teddy Cruz?
The Donny is not gonna be happy...maybe after he get’s off Twitter and has his macaroni & cheese for supper, he’ll finally call his lawyer to get that wittle lawsuit going...Teddy’s not gonna like it, or the bad words from Donny...last time Donny called Teddy the P word, Melania washed his mouth out with soap and sent him to bed early! Poor wittle Donny!
âTrump gave two names already of who he would nominate. â
And one of those two has been outed as being involved in gay porn!
Which one? Link and quote PLEASE.
TIA>
“Trump is pro-life. “
While he’s trying to get your vote today.
Wait till the general election when he cozies up to “people he likes, that he can work with” like Pelosi and Schumer and Reid to appeal to the “moderates”.
What evidence do you have that he will remain pro life?
Let’s face it, Trump is a salesman. When he says something he says it like he really, really, really means it, and you really want to believe him because it sounds so good. Moreover you (and I) really like the way he’s taken a sledgehammer to the media and PC. But I’ve come to the conclusion that I have no idea what he will and will not do once he gets in.
Do you have any confidence that he will do what you THINK he will do, or is it just a crap shoot on your part?
If our nation's borders disappear and agreements like TPP and Nafta continue, and if Muslims are continued to be allowed to enter en masse, and if no wall is built---there won't BE a USA. We will be under UN and international law, and abortion will be unrestrained.
First, we must beat ISLAM and GLOBALISTS (like Cruz), THEN, and i hope this comes to pass, we can work to pass sanctity of life and abortion ban in the USA. We have no chance if we lose the nation to Cruz's donors, the globalists.
Cruz is going to mess around and HAND Hillary the WINNING issue, the proven winning issue, "The Republican War On Women." When the issue needs to be ONE THING: GLOBALISM vs. PATRIOTISM.
Only ONE CANDIDATE stands on the platform of sovereignty, nationalism and patriotism: Trump.
I saw the interview and it was totally inconclusive, a short little cronversation. I trust his actual position paper/press release, not the very short segment and a couple of words.
Yeah, that is pretty sleazy.
