And the Republican base believes they will lose the Senate if they don’t block it. I wonder who’s more important?

A Dim-o-crat telling Repubs how to run the show? I don’t think so...

Republicans should hold hearings on any Obama nominee. Very extensive hearings. And then find reasons for rejection. Or for eternally extended requests for more information. I would focus particularly on the explicit litmus test that any such nominee would have taken, and about which he will by lying when he testifies.

Pick your issue(s). Republicans should not engage in borking, but they should, in a civil and politically compelling way, demonstrate that Obama's pick is constitutionally unsound.

The Republicans control the Senate?

When did this happen?

If anyone cared about what he thinks, he would be Chairman.

Lose the Senate? So what? We haven’t used it anyway.

If we don’t use the Senate for this, then what do we use it for? If not now, when? If not us, who?

Mitch has survived long enough to have one more chance to stand for the right and light against the left and darkness.
HE doesn’t deserve to salvage his reputation through doing the right thing, but our country DOES!

For me, this is the final straw.

If the GOP does not grow a pair and delay until after inauguration day confirmation of any SC nominee, I’ll join the long line of those who have quit the Party due to their weakness and collaboration.

I doubt that will happen. The GOP will lose seats but not because of the Scalia issue and not enough to lose control of the Senate.

He’s full of crap. Traitor.

If that were the case, I’d trade the traitors in the Senate for keeping a leftist hack off the court. Any day of the week.

So a Democrat is predicting the Republicans will lose the senate if they don’t do what the Democrats want? And this is somehow newsworthy?

If Leahy had said “Republicans have such a strong grip on the Senate that they can likely block Obama’s nominations without fear of losing control of the Senate.” THAT would be newsworthy.

As is, this is a dog-bites-man story. Move on.

If the GOPO loses the Senate over it, it would be worth it.

No contest.

He could be right, under this scenario.

Obama nominates a black female. The Senate refuses to move the nomination ahead. She becomes the latest “War On Women, Republicans are Racist!” poster child, which spurs the Obama coalition to turn out and vote in large numbers once again.

Why does he think that the GOP is going to “lose” the Senate?

This will help the GOP bigtime.

Ceding Vermont to Canada is about the only way I can think of.

Leahy is sooo concerned about Republicans. Let’s assume there is a risk. Would we want a progressive left court or a conservative Constitutional Court as a republican Senate? I would go for a conservative Court now and then in two years turn our attention back to the Senate.
