Ted Cruz goes after Donald Trump for attacking George W. Bush
CBS NEWS ^ | February 15, 2016, | REBECCA SHABAD

Posted on 02/15/2016 1:57:52 PM PST by MarvinStinson

Sen. Ted Cruz on Monday said Donald Trump's openness to the idea of impeaching President George W. Bush for the Iraq war was "an extreme and radical position."

Speaking to reporters ahead of a rally in Aiken, South Carolina, Cruz went after Trump's comments from the CBS News GOP presidential debate on Saturday night in which he attacked the former president.

"On Saturday, one of the strangest moments was when Donald Trump repeatedly attacked George W. Bush and defended his position seeking to impeach George W. Bush," Cruz said Monday.

"Now, when he was arguing for the impeachment of George W. Bush, that was not a reasonable position."

At Saturday night's debate, moderator John Dickerson alluded to a CNN interview Trump did in 2008 in which he said he was surprised that Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-California, didn't try to impeach Bush, which Trump said, "personally, I think would have been a wonderful thing."

Asked whether he still believes Bush should have been impeached, Trump did not answer the question directly and instead said he gets along with everyone as a businessman.

On Monday, Cruz also attacked Trump's sister, Maryanne Barry, who he said was appointed by President Bill Clinton to be a federal appellate judge.

"Donald's sister was a Bill Clinton-appointed federal appellate judge who is a radical pro-abortion extremist," Cruz said. "Indeed, she wrote an opinion striking down restrictions on partial birth abortion, saying that restricting partial birth abortion was irrational. Even among liberal judges, that position is extreme, and Donald said, his extreme, abortion-supporting sister would make a terrific Supreme Court justice."

Trump backed away from that statement on Sunday, saying he suggested it as a joke.

Cruz jumping to the defense of the Bushes, probably all the neo-con cash flowing into his campaign.

LOL, well at least Trump is "honest" and never flip-flops, changes his mind, walks back statements, etc.

The Trump Tapes - Vol. 1
Guns - he supported an assault weapons ban and a longer waiting period to purchase a firearm.

Healthcare - Trump said he was "very liberal when it comes to health care" and that he believes in "universal healthcare."

Abortion - he was pro-choice and for partial birth abortion.

Democrats - he said Hillary was a fantastic senator, praised Pelosi, and said Obama is a great President.

He was a Democrat 2001 - 2009:

Trump’s simply singing the Liberal song....”Bush lied people died”....Lies! Lies! Lies!

Yet he cannot defend his positions....just throws “stuff’ out there.

Is that Don King in the last photo? There is an episode of Celebrity Deathmatch with Trump v. King. I think it really captures the essense of Trump.

Celebrity Deathmatch: Donald Trump v. Don King

Go to the 8 minute mark.

Trump's sister was first appointed by Ronald Reagan.

I think Justice Alito clerked for Maryanne Trump Barry right after he graduated law school also. Read somewhere they were still friends...

Both miss the deceit of the bush administration.

No nukes.
No mobile chemical weapons factories.

The two specific claims.

They also misused the intelligence to deceive the public to go to war.

I defended the guy for years, until the truth leaked out.

I doubt it, but I’m sure the neo-cons are up to their eyeballs in everyone’s campaign, except Trump’s. That’s why they are foaming and frothing at the mouth, Trump doesn’t have to come begging them for their money, and he sticks a finger in the eye of the media.

BS

no information obtained from intelligence can be 100% right, 100% of the time.

I guess you will be blaming Roosevelt for lying us into WW2 by ignoring intelligence we had that the Japs were about to attack.

“...what did ya want Obama to do? Spend trillions more and another decade in Ustinkistan like Boosh did? So there ya have it.”

No, there YOU have it. Good defense of Obama. But wildly untrue. As anyone who is even slightly intelligent can tell you, and I qualify for at least that status, though arguing with you might make that hard to believe, the money and materials were already there, the up front cost of any military campaign always being the heaviest. We were in control in Iraq, Obama handed it all over to be used by whoever could fill the void we left. Which was a huge mistake. We have bases in Korea, Japan and Germany. Why not there? Because your socialist thinking told us we had to leave because it was “tooo haaaaard” to keep up.

I have a better understanding of why you support Tump and his sympathies for defending the Socialist positions now, though. Thanks for showing your true colors.

Trump keeps saying the things you’re not allowed to say. I won’t be voting for him, but he’s right, again.

“No, he could have said “My sister and I disagree on many things, and as a result of that, as much as I love her I couldn’t in good conscience recommend her for the Supreme Court.””

Why on Earth would anyone speak like that? That doesn’t even sound like a real human, and it kinda seems rude to say that about your sister.

He wasn’t even asked a question specifically about his sister. He just jokingly tossed her name out there. No different than if Cruz said “I’d like my dad to be on the court”, and people freaking out about it.

Understand, I only post, like many others, when the scotch has kicked in.

LOL, I gave up Scotch a long time ago used to love Glenn Fiddich and Glenn Levitt, Budweiser here.

Seriously, I agree, in a lot of ways Ford got a short stick, he was put into a very difficult position coming in after Nixon.

I, like you do not blame Bush for 9/11, most of that belongs with Clinton and his myriad of "missteps" but I could never understand why the first thing Bush didn't do was seal the border after 9/11....I'll never get that of forgive him for that.

That said, we're facing a very different time in my estimation. Americans are fed up with DC and the ensconced "royalty".

This season, rebellion seems to be in the air.....guess we'll see how it al ends up playing out.

May God Bless us, we need it.
