A British SAS sniper took an Islamic State (Isis) commander's head clean off as he taught jihadi recruits how to behead captives, according to reports. The marksman fired from over a kilometre away (1,000 metres) to land the shot.
The IS (Daesh) fighter was reported to be in the middle of a drill teaching new soldiers how to execute captives, according to the Daily Express. Some 20 new terror recruits were watching as the fatal bullet struck.
The soldier was operating in the northern Syria a fortnight ago and was using a .338 rifle with tumbling ammo that can cause a huge hole in the body on impact. The sniper had assistance from 12 fellow SAS soldiers, who managed to sneak into a jihadi compound before the shot was fired.
One military insider said: "One minute he was standing there and the next his head had exploded. The commander remained standing upright for a couple of seconds before collapsing and that's when panic set in. We later heard most of the recruits deserted. We got rid of 21 terrorists with one bullet."

With a good rifle and that round, provided it was a pretty calm day, you can put that round anywhere you want it at 1000 without trying to hard so long as you know how your marksmanship principles.
My buddy and I shoot 338 out way past that at 8 inch metal gongs and provided you’ve chronographed your rounds and did your math right, you can just add your clicks and squeeze.
Bosnia had lots of snipers. It was easy to tell who by the Bosnian tuxedo lol.
When you’re shooting a charging elephant heh.
It may occur to them, as they try to wash this fella’s brain matter off of their faces, that the British SAS isn’t to be trifled with.

338 is more popular than the .50 now because of the farmer’s higher ballistic coefficient.
It’s easier to make better shots with the 338. The old record held my recce platoon mate was beaten by a Brit with the 338.

I believe the "Tumbling " refers to the motion of the bullet upon impacting its target. It's a way of getting around the Hague Convention which states:
"The Contracting Parties agree to abstain from the use of bullets which expand or flatten easily in the human body, such as bullets with a hard envelope which does not entirely cover the core, or is pierced with incisions."
By constructing the bullet with its center of mass to the back of the bullet, on impact the bullet "tumbles" and dissipates its kinetic energy within the target. Some "tumbling" rounds have voids immediately behind the tip of the round increasing the "tumbling" effect.
No. David said “LORD, do I not hate those who hate you?” and the King of kings will be doing His own ordering of misting upon His return. Nobody talks about that much though.
Too bad he never knew what hit him.
Awesome, thanks!
If it’s not a problem, then why is the shot in the news? :-)
It’s not a problem for a well trained sniper.
It’s amazing to everyone else.
But, there’s still no need to invent a decapitation to fluff it up. Or to invent tumbling .338 rounds, either.
You should have had ‘em in those floating gun cases like me! When my boat flipped I was able to save some of mine.
Of course, the house fire we had afterwards took care of the rest...
Actually he was aiming for center of mass. This was a bad shot that went right. It was a good day. 338 Lapuas do not tumble in flight.
Its entertaining news to hear about a Muzz getting his head blown off. :-) The shot itself by a trained sniper is not that unusual. But I loved reading about it and the tumbling round. LOL!
In another thread somebody said the SAS snipers have to give a warning before they shoot - I find that hard to believe. Although I guess from 1000 yards away, it probably wouldn’t hurt to mutter “Give up or all your base belong to us.”
Prety amazing.Wonder what his 10 shot group would look like in field conditions-not off the bench.
