SAS sniper takes Daesh commander's head off while giving beheading lessons

A British SAS sniper took an Islamic State (Isis) commander's head clean off as he taught jihadi recruits how to behead captives, according to reports. The marksman fired from over a kilometre away (1,000 metres) to land the shot.

The IS (Daesh) fighter was reported to be in the middle of a drill teaching new soldiers how to execute captives, according to the Daily Express. Some 20 new terror recruits were watching as the fatal bullet struck.

The soldier was operating in the northern Syria a fortnight ago and was using a .338 rifle with tumbling ammo that can cause a huge hole in the body on impact. The sniper had assistance from 12 fellow SAS soldiers, who managed to sneak into a jihadi compound before the shot was fired.

One military insider said: "One minute he was standing there and the next his head had exploded. The commander remained standing upright for a couple of seconds before collapsing and that's when panic set in. We later heard most of the recruits deserted. We got rid of 21 terrorists with one bullet."

Anyone who would believe an accurate shot could be made from 1000 meters with a tumbling bullet would believe anything.

I’ve seen Marine snipers shooting the 7.62 make repeated head shots at the range. It takes a very still day and a very good shot but the equipment is up to the task.

LOL....had the same thought.

No way a ‘tumbling’ bullet is accurate at 1000 yards.
.338 is an excellent caliber and with the right type of bullet placed in just the right spot, serious head trauma should be expected....

Amazing shot, no doubt.

If Ash Carter can establish that the former IS headsman had molested young boys, then he can lobby Cameron to throw the sniper out of the army.

One effectively placed bomb would have killed 22 killers. I am all for quantity.

Think the rifle he is working with is probably better than .5 MOA. Probably more like .3 with a professional trigger man at the back end.
3 inches at 1,000 yards, it ain’t luck my friend.
Here’s a civilian getting .4 at 1000 yards.

My old Marlin Golden 39A had ended the lives of a few Raccoons. So had my H & R .22 revolver. It’s a shame both of them were in the canoe when it tipped over in the Great Pee Dee river.

Idiot reporters. Obviously tumbling projectiles would have no accuracy.

It’s much more likely just sensationalism and trying to sell papers, and get clicks.

Not sure how much energy the UK military .338 rounds have at long range, but we are talking about a kilometer. Only have civilian data to go on.

The head shot at that range is impressive enough. There’s no need to fluff up the story, imo.

‘tumbling ammo’ - hmmm... I can only imagine a round starting to tumble after being deflected, or after traveling some extreme distance - before hitting the ground...

at 1600 meters the .338 LaPua is still supersonic. 1000 meters on that head shot is not a problem.

I was going to call bullshit on the “tumbling ammo”, but you beat me to it. :-) Good shooting though!

Some are good, some are retards. I dealt with one on my first tour. He tried to bring in a girl to base, and I wouldn’t let him. He tried to pull the “do you know who I am”. I said yup, I’ve seen him with the generals in close protection detail. Needless to say, it got physical, and I ended up zip tying his wrists behind his back while I waited for platoon commander and MPs to show up.

Next day he came to our sleeping quarters and threatened to kill myself and the commander. When the JTF2 boys got wind of it, they went into the Brit ranks club. As soon as they walked in the other boys just pointed him out. They proceeded to put him in with a visit to the doc. He got rtu’d back to his old para unit, then they didn’t want him after that either. Last I heard he was bottom of the barrel.

This guy from the story sounds like the opposite of that guy heh, good shooting.
