Sunday on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends,” Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump warned if the Republican Party isn’t willing to admit the 2003 invasion of Iraq was a mistake, then the party will be defeated in the upcoming general election.
Trump said, “The Iraq war was a disaster. It was a mistake. We spent $2 trillion, thousands of lives, thousands of lives, wounded warriors who we love all over the place. What do we have? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Iran is taking over Iraq as sure as you’re sitting there. And that’s the way it is. We get nothing. They get the oil, they get everything. We get nothing. So it was a huge mistake. Whether people like it or not. and I’m the only one with the vision to have said don’t do it. And I wasn’t even a politician when I said that.”
He added, “Something’s going to have to happen with the party or we’re going to lose yet another election. I’m not even doing it to win election, I’m doing it out of common sense. The war was a horrible thing. If we’re not going to admit that, you’re going to have yet another election where the Democrats are going to win.”

The Iraq war was no mistake; the nation-building that followed was.
I’m willing to trust it to God (not to religion, to God). That is a “risk” that is a sure thing.
SOoooooooooo let me get this straight...the upcoming election is going to be based on CODE PINK talking points???
And troublingly it looks like Trump has them mixed up. I’m pretty sure, however, he is soon going to get an earful from some advisors. Jeff Sessions is probably aghast at this, for one thing.
He needs to catch up on the dynamics of global politics if he wants to keep any credibility.
That any candidate can have a few lunatic followers?
If the devil told the truth, I’d listen because it would mean that if I did not get my salvation straight, I was about to be damned.
The Iraq war WAS nation building. That was one of W’s stated purposes - bring them democracy, they’ll love it and us, and voila no more terrorists.
Didn’t work out that way. We have absolutely nothing to show for that war. It’s as bad or even worse there.
I was for it too back then and believed the arguments. But wrong is wrong.
Thanks for the link.
OBAMA- One Big Ass Mistake, America
And that was part of the Bush idea from the word go.
I think it could have been done right had we kept a more old fashioned point of view and set up another kingdom there. But kingdom establishments went out of style with the Shah, it seems.
Once again Trump is controlling the political narrative. Instead of sitting on his purported lead, he has the GOP Establishment scurrying to defend an unpopular war and president. Meanwhile no one is really talking about the other candidates so no one will stand out and “surge”.
Somewhat risky, yes. But Trump is playing to win the general not just SC and no one can keep up with him.
The truth is, the GOP and the Bushes are unpopular and deservedly so.
Okay... is it just me or is this paragraph a lot of nothing???? I think the DONALD just talks nonsense. Think about and interpret this paragraph..
" I'm not even doing it to win election. I'm doing it out of common sense."
Pray tell Mr. TRUMP what are you " doing"???? ...need a teleprompter
" If we're not going to admit it THE WAR being wrong we are going to lose the election.
Huh???? so now this election's focal point will go back to the IRAQ war???
Sounds to me like we have a Republican candidate yelling " BUSH'S FAULT"...
Trump must be nervous that he blew his chances with his anti-Bush remarks at the debate if he’s got Ivanka doing damage control in web site comments.
Well Trump is kind of an ass, as in Balaam’s ass.
If Trump intends to talk about the whole enterprise as a unit, he would have a point... but he could stand to separate out the issues anyhow. Because we can not go anywhere but forward. If a West-friendly kingdom or kingdoms could be set up in Iraq that would probably be the best way to go. It fits with the mindset of the people. This democracy junk, especially with the farcical idea of basing it on Islam, is just a funnel for the worst of Allah.
if you are asking if Trump gets the nomination would I vote for him then the answer is YES. If I can vote for such losers like McCain,Dole, Romney then one can vote for anyone. I wont be happy about it but Trump would have to better than voting for the Politboro.
Would you vote for Cruz?
Well the idea of wishing a democracy on Iraq was also a mistake. You can talk about lack of commitment, but face it, Bush had no magic wand. He could not guarantee that his successor would not be a peacenik to a fault, and democracies are high-maintenance things when you try to undergird them with a hostile philosophy like Islam (yes that is in their constitution).
I think the right thing then, and still a possible way forward (maybe with the help of other countries, even Russia!) would be to get a decent West friendly kingdom (or kingdoms) set up in Iraq. This will also make it easier on members of unpopular religions there (e.g. Christianity and Judaism).
If he gets to this point, yes I’d do it. I don’t have any deep enmities here. Circumstances changes from day to day and it all ultimately depends on the Lord.
The neo-cons at NR and the Standard Weakling and the swarms of them infesting the republican party won’t stand for a republican candidate saying that the Iraq war was wrong. They have been after Trump for months, because he was opposed to the war all along. They are afraid that if he is elected he may not listen to them when they start their screaming for yet another war in the Middle East for America’s sons and now daughters to die in.
This war might have yet made sense, if it hadn’t embraced the farcical move of trying to set up an Islamic democracy, which has never been seen. The only civilized thing possible for that is a kingdom.
I can’t agree that it was entirely a mistake. I can agree, however, that it was badly executed by Dubya, then hobbled in Congress, then turned on its head by Obama, who set out deliberately to undo any advantage to America’s interests and proceeded to wreck the entire Middle East.
