it was inexcusable to commit America to war on erroneous or incomplete intelligence about nuclear wmd. then he used powell to close the deal. for me the only reasons to go to war with iran, iraq, saudi arabia or any islamo-fascistic tyranny is either a direct attack on us or iron-clad, unmistakable evidence with multiple independent on the ground confirmations of nukes nearing or under actual deployment.
bush invoked the time-honored, “trust me, he has them” argument. so i, for one, did (and full disclosure, i’m not a republican). to my everlasting shame, a more naive version of me bought his and powell’s brand of bs intelligence back in the day on sadam and iraq.
two theories: bush was playing fast and loose and counting on finding the evidence once he was in. or he was lying out right for the ruling classes’ own purposes in iraq. either way, bush’s war against iraq has proved to be disasterous for this nation. bush has a lot of explaining to do; and he has sacrificed a crippling amount of American blood, goodwill, “political capital,” prestige and treasure for what amounts to be a vainglorious, idolatrous, never-ending war.
I believe there were some WMDs in Iraq. I also believe they were not a threat to the U.S. IMO Cheney pushed Bush into the invasion. Since they left office I do not see any interaction between them and Bush let scooter twist in the wind IMO because he was upset.
This war was a disaster for US. it led to us dwelling on the Mid East while domestic issues were failing. In the end it gave us Obama which will be a millstone on the neck of our nation for at least 20years assuming hitlery is not elected. The Scalia death is almost a knockout punch too.
I supported bush because he was our guy. I regret doing that up to the point of considering how much worse algore or Lurch would have been.
What was the argument that Obama used for taking us to war against Libya and approving of the torture, abuse, and murder of a POW named Momar Gaddafi?

Yes hindsight is 20/20, but getting involved in Iraq going all the way back to the first Gulf War was a disaster that this country will pay for for generations.
The whole argument doesn’t stand up over time. Lots of countries have WMD. 20/20 hindsight and a lot of beloved Americans gone and clearly the war was a mistake.
Saddam thought he had WMDs; he paid a ton for their procurement and manufacture. And tons of Iraqis and Europeans made a lot of money off it.
