Yep, Trump was essentially correct although there were other avenues to avoid the catastrophe.
Trump was impressive in this interview with Wolf. Trump repeatedly stated that everything in Washington’s a lie and I think he was and is correct in that assessment.

Well, we eventually ended up doing what Trump said we should have done - declare victory and get out - and we got ISIS for that. The first key mistake in the war was sticking with Rumsfeld’s vision of limited military presence for way too long. And the second was not insisting on a status of forces agreement. Obama walking away basically put us on a very weak footing in the region, and politics abhors a vacuum.
