Before the GOP debate in Greenville, S.C. Saturday night, Sen. Lindsey Graham said the only way President Obama could get a Supreme Court nominee approved by the Senate would be to put forward a consensus choice. “No one will be appointed who isn’t a consensus choice," Graham said. "Now can the president find someone who 90 percent of us will agree upon? Maybe someone like Orrin Hatch." Graham, who threw his support behind Jeb Bush days after ending his own presidential bid, framed the question of Scalia's replacement around the issue of electability, asserting that the anti-establishment candidates who have had the most success early on in the GOP nomination fight aren't likely to yield a justice in the mold of Scalia. “Donald Trump’s not a conservative, so I don’t trust him to pick a judge," Graham said. "Everybody else on stage would pick somebody in the same mold, I think. Everybody other than Donald Trump I would have confidence would pick a Supreme Court justice nominee that I would vote for. Here’s the problem: I don’t think Ted Cruz or Donald Trump can win an election. I don’t think Ted Cruz has a snowball’s chance in hell of getting 270 electoral votes. “If we lose the election, Hillary Clinton’s going to pick somebody who I wouldn’t pick. I’m telling every conservative now: don’t expect to lose the election and still get your way.â€

Graham described liberal Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan as “very qualified candidates to be picked by a Democratic president,” and although he voted to confirm them, he said he would not have chosen them.
Graham is Exhibit 1 as to why the Senate will never have 40 senators strong enough to prevent cloture and block an Obama nominee to the bench.
He is also Exhibit 1 as to why 2016 is the Year of the Insurgent.
Rob Portman has an opportunity to win back my vote here by voting to block cloture.

It’s already begun! The rationalizations. The excuses. The outright capitulation!
Nevermind that there is plenty of history to tell us that lame duck presidents should NOT be able to pick SC justices! It’s already, again, business as usual for the GOPe.
We need to stop this! We need to remind these cowards of the recent and ongoing REBELLION amongst their own ranks. We need to remind them that their cushy jobs, fat benefits, and the like are in jeopardy now more than ever. With Trump, Cruz, and Carson, there is well over 65% of support for non-traditional, NON-GOPe candidates. That’s a rebellion folks and we need to remind them of this fact.
They can not be allowed to capitulate on this. They need to fight on this. We need to fight them on this. Be prepared come Tuesday to fight. To light up the phones and inboxes of your Senators! Don’t let this happen! Obama can’t be allowed to have his nominee confirmed. Or else the election itself is meaningless. It will be meaningless, if the SC is tilted to the left, which is Obama’s goal.
The boys in the Senate need to get over their “He’s the president, he should have whoever he wants.” bull****. That’s not how America is supposed to work. Americans should have whoever THEY want. It’s time to stop the freak show that the Supreme Court has become.
