It could have tremendously damaged Trump’s candidacy if he refused to discuss the topic the moderator asked him about. You know as well as I do that all the news following the debate would have been: “Trump showed utter inability to even briefly discuss Supreme Court appointments.” Within a day or two Cruz would have had an ad with a clip from the debate saying that Trump had proved to be utterly intellectually incapable of dealing with judicial appointments, so it would be a disaster to elect him. The presidential debate was precisely the time and place for this discussion. It seems to me, you are simply taking a cheap shot at Trump.
