Yes, and the thing about “National Populism” is that the collective beast is historically observed to take on a life of its own.

Moral Relativism and Populism are no basis for moral governance - as CS Lewis points out in his essay:

“The poison of Subjectivism”

While it’s true that we’re voting for a president and not a pope - it’s also true that Cruz’s historical faith, combined with his family’s direct experience with the effects of state-established collective/corporate terrorism (communism) make it more likely that he will operate within the bounds of Christian moral constraint if/when the Collective Nationalist Populist beast does what it always does.

Trump, married 3 times, has no positive history of faithful or family behavior upon which to extrapolate a moral POTUS Trump.
