Video Shows Exact Moment 1,400 Employees Learn They Are Losing Their Jobs to Mexico

Although the decision to inform a workforce of 1,400 employees that they'll soon be losing their jobs to Mexico is an admirable one from the standpoint of candor, it hardly makes for a good recipe for workplace morale.

A cell phone video taken at Carrier Air Conditioner in Indianapolis shows the exact moment that the plant and union workers were told that the company had decided to shift production south of the border.

"The best way to stay competitive and protect the business for longterm is to move production from our facility in Indianapolis to Monterrey, Mexico," says the company representative at the microphone.

Although the change would not take effect until 2017, the reactions from the gathered restless crowd were telling.

Carrier will go where it’s best to do business and it will be the USA. That’s the point.

If it’s to reduce competition between American companies, they are wrong.

you have a point. there are major auto works in Alabama.

I can't say why not Alabama.

Ford is unionized and likely could not shake the UAW even in Alabama. Remember GM moved operations to Tennessee a right to work state and attempted to operate non union but ended up getting the UAW eventually. Some think the UAW destroyed Saturn

But, and I know you are going to love this........

Mexico is already a massive center for auto manufacturing and distribution on a global basis. That is, as a global player, Ford will be able to develop export sales that likely would not occur from Alabama. The Mexican Ford source can ship not only back to the states but to global markets as well.

I read a lengthy Forbes article not long ago and was astounded by the depth of the auto manufacturing business in Mexico. In point of fact, Ford is probably late jumping on this bandwagon

Ford in Alabama (or South Carolina) might be a future possibility but apparently not right now

This is BS read up on the facts concerning the Polish workers. It was the corrupt union that did that. There was a lawsuit against Trump’s deep pockets and he was found partially liable that he “should have known” - unlike slimy lawyers and political hacks who never have to face these problems businessmen are accountable for everything.

Trump builds all over the world including the US. He builds buildings here that China comes over and rents from him, bringing Chinese cash back here. He is developing the old post office across the street from the White House. America first, that’s Trump.

There are countless media trolls that will worm themselves inside our heads and plant ideas and images that they want us to think and see about their target Donald Trump. For example, Club For Growth is out in full force against Donald Trump this week because he wouldn’t pay them a $1 million demand for their ‘protection’.

Not all you see or hear is true and today’s media is the slimiest of liars.

To get the truth, look at Trump’s family and executives. You will see high standards, high integrity, strong work ethic. These are the telltale signs of what he is all about. Most everything else is a spun narrative by his enemies.

One thing you can bank on without question, he is a patriot of the highest order:

I think this is a smooth over of.... cheap labor, less regulation and ability to ship tax free back to this country. Complex set of issues, but we simply have to protect our jobs or we have no country. No matter how much we justify a business leaving, collectively it is our death knell.

>>”Carrier will go where it’s best to do business and it will be the USA.

It won’t be if you put big government in charge of deciding the cost of who you hire and where, how you organize your company to be competitive.

Try this mental experiment: Suppose Texas charged a fee to any company who moved a job out of state. Would that be an incentive for companies to open offices in Texas or a disincentive?

Texas is bound to the US Constitution which prohibits what you suggest in your ‘mental experiment’.

More likely 10x that. You have to add in their families, friends, and neighbors who they talk to. Not to mention the remaining employees who weren't sacked. They're all thinking the same thing: I could be next.

Plus all the Trump voters who care more about their American brothers and sisters than they do about the economic heath of Carrier, or of Mexico.

I worked at Earthlink an ISP and they closed most of their call centers.
We were all happy when we had to attend a meeting with the CEO who showed up but then he announced the place was closing in 2 months. The jobs went to India. He had bodyguards next to him.....

I was lucky and got a new job before the place closed. I am still at the ‘new’ job 12 years later. Earthlink 5 million customers are now 900 thousand and the stock is at $4.67

Are you thinking that American companies only compete with American companies? Is this the goal you have in mind?

>>>If we don’t start to protect our jobs by increasing the cost of doing business out of the country - along with tax and regulation reduction

Problem is the proposal seems to be new taxes and regulation.

You don’t improve the economy - for all classes - by increasing government control, taxes and regulation.

If you do, then the democrats are right.

I believe you get the point. Your post seems to be a dodge of the question.

Would that be an incentive for companies to open offices in Texas or a disincentive?

Apply it to the U.S. if you wish, same question.

Cars are too damned expensive so people are running them until they fall apart.

New cars are overrated. One more roll of duct tape, and this car's good for another 500,000 miles!
