In 1972, Pauline Kael, film critic for the New Yorker, famously said after the presidential election, "I can't believe Nixon won. I don't know anyone who voted for him." Following the New Hampshire primary, former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu said, "By name, I know only five people supporting Donald Trump. So I can say I cannot understand this electorate."
The difference between Sununu and most conservative pundits is that he is honest about his cluelessness. For several months, night after night, conservative talking heads have been bashing Trump, dismissing him as if he were a carnival freak. Oh, yes, they readily concede, he may be able to whip up the masses, but he cannot engage them for the long fight. That they look increasingly silly cannot be denied.
The fundamental problem with conservative critics of Trump is their class bias. They don't understand the working class. Sheltered in prep schools and Ivy League institutions, their world is one where ideas count, and not much else. They don't understand the visceral appeal of someone like Trump.
What is Trump's appeal? Candidness and an intolerance for business as usual (Bernie Sanders employs these qualities as well). The working class has long believed that most politicians -- it matters not a whit whether they are Republicans or Democrats -- neither speak to them or for them. They speak above them, or past them, but never to them.
How is it possible for a billionaire to connect to blue-collar workers but polished politicians cannot? Because Trump speaks their language: He is bold and decisive, and he is not owned by the political class.

Many people do not understand that Trump is from the wrong side of the river, Brooklyn. He has always been very comfortable with cabbies, police and construction workers.
When he was 12 he was crawling around checking on foundations under low income housing for his father. He has not been accepted by the elites because he did not grown up as one of them.
This is like Dr. Frankenstein wondering where this strange monster came from.
I predict that when Trump hits the Bible belt rumors will circulate that he’s the Anti-Christ. My daughter told me this morning that she’s already hearing that at work.
A lot of people here, including me, support him right now but that would be a hurtful rumor considering he’s a loud-mouthed New Yorker with a bad attitude and a foul mouth and that won’t endear him to a lot of born and bred Southerners. I don’t LIKE him on a personal level but I like what he is saying politically.
There’s the “ruling elite”, the “media elite”, the academia elite”, who else?
None of them will ever get it, partly because they enjoy the power and tyranny of the status quo. The status quo is their paradigm, what they are used to, an expert in, their playground. Trump and those for him represent something that threatens their paradigm, their “expertise”, and their power.

One of his sons was interviewed couple months ago and was asked about the student unrest at the University of Missouri I think it was. The interviewer asked him would he have joined protestors when he was in college. He looked at her strange and said he really didn’t know what she talking about but he did know when he was in college if he had any free time or when he was on break, he was always on a work site pulling wire, helping put on a roof or hanging sheet rock. His said his father had him and his brother out working with the rest of the crew from a very early age. It was a great answer.

Trump doesn’t Lecture his Audience. He doesn’t give a Political Speech per se, he talks to the Audience and he stops to respond to them when they shout out questions before getting back to whatever he was speaking about.
He also isn’t looked upon as some out of touch Rich Guy, like Romney was. Trump is not embarrassed by his Wealth while Romney cowered when he was criticized for being a Rich Guy. He acted embarrassed about it, big mistake.

The fact that my Wife asks me what President Trump had to say today just cracks me up. She was and is as Apolitical as the day is long. She would just Vote for whomever I suggested, up until now.
All I can say is, Best Election Season EVER! Watching Hillary’s meltdown is like eating a Triple Chocolate Cake.
Roger Stone was interviewed by Hannity a few minutes and Stone said Cruz is running robo calls against Trump saying he’s pro-abortion, which is a lie. This is the same Cruz that claims he’s a Christian. Apparently Trump has pulled down his attack ads against Cruz and will run no more. I would have kept it up because what he said was fact. Hopefully he’ll look straight at Cruz during the next debate and tell him to quit lying about his positions. If Cruz opens his mouth about Trump you can rest assured it’s a lie. For this man to claim to be a Christian he’s one of the most lowlife politicians I have ever saw in my life. He will say and do anything to get a vote.
I love Trump as a candidate because everything he is saying is 100% accurate. On a personal level I think he might get on my nerves. :-) I don’t have to like him on a personal level though as long as he will do what he says and he’s saying all the right things. I was really disturbed at what Cruz did to Carson too.
I would think the Anti-Christ would be a more polished speaker, and extremely anti-semetic, like the incumbent in the White House...
That’s what I told my daughter. I expect the AC to be a smooth talker (Trump is not), a very likeable person (Trump is not), young, and possibly some kind of false prophet religious leader. She keeps saying that because Trump is so high in the polls that he “is popular” but being popular and being liked are not the same thing. I can love the things he says without liking how he always says them. I would not like to be confined in a room with him for a long time but that doesn’t mean he isn’t capable of being President.
I also agree about the current POTUS. My bet would have been on him.
Don’t give up on current POTUS too soon, I hear he wants to run as head cheese of the UN after we are finally rid of him. (Now that he has a great resume under his belt). I agree with you that popular is not a bad thing, look at how popular David was. I keep thinking, which of the candidates would I really like to work for, and hands down, it would be Trump. (not Cruz)
Obama at the UN or on the Supreme Court is a scary thing! Most politicians, especially Jeb, sound like oily used car salesmen or televangelists to me. I have nothing at all against evangelists but the ones on TV begging for money while living in mansions are the ones I’m talking about. They are all too smooth. I don’t think Trump could act like that if he tried.
