The difference I see is that Trump isn't campaigning that he's led the fight against bankruptcy, failed marriages, adultery etc. like Cruz and Rubio are campaigning that they've led the fight on their failures. As a Cruz supporter, I don't see this as a put-down of Cruz. The OP has made a valid suggestion for a campaign strategy. And one that is much more logical than that of bragging about lost battles, IMO.

yes he can win. But you are a smart person. If Cruz is up by 1 over Hilary and Trump is down by 2 then how can he be drawing in so many Democrats votes? Do not lose the cruz base. I’m ready to stay home because I’m p..d off at being insulted over and over as the Cruz voter.
