What About Ted Cruz?
The New York Times ^ | February 9, 2016 | Thomas B. Edsall

Posted on 02/09/2016 11:29:07 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Despite Donald Trump's victory in New Hampshire, what is the chance that Republicans will nominate Ted Cruz and that he will go on to win the presidency?

The website ElectionBettingOdds gives Cruz a 14.5 percent chance of winning the nomination -- his victory in the Iowa caucuses and what looks like a third place showing in New Hampshire notwithstanding. It puts his chances of actually winning the presidency at 4.3 percent.

But let's say Cruz beats the odds and wins the nomination. One of the most conservative members of the Senate, Cruz would test the argument made by leaders of the hard right that Republicans have lost four of the last six presidential elections because their candidates -- George H. W. Bush of 1992, Robert Dole, John McCain and Mitt Romney -- were insufficiently conservative.

For more than 50 years, Phyllis Schlafly, the right-wing icon and founder of the Eagle Forum, has been a relentless proponent of the nomination of far-right candidates like Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan.

In an Oct. 7, 2015, column, Schlafly wrote:

Establishment candidates have been unable to win the popular vote in five out of the last six elections, and that outcome is not something any Republican should want to repeat.

There is an unusual degree of consensus on the intensity of Cruz's conservatism among experts in campaigns, elections and partisan polarization....

And Cruz came in third or fourth tonight. Ergo, he spent more money to lose, than Trump did to win.

Not if they're 66, or even older.

The Birth Control pill became legal in 1960. And before that, there were other forms of legal birth control appliances for women.

OTOH, abortion became legal for the entire USA in 1973, buts some states, such as California, had made it legal earlier than that.

I disproved your point.

Like you, I have done quite a lot of reading about the FFs. Unlike you, I know what I'm talking about!

For instance, long before this primary, Cruz was interviewed and one of the questions concerned what a NBC is. At that time, he answered correctly, which make him INELIGIBLE to be president.

Now, all of a sudden, he has changed what he says constitutes a NBC; to suit himself.

OTOH...thank YOU for proving, beyond a shadow of a doubt, what I posted about you.

This aspect of Ted Cruz relates to the fact that we are so far away from what our Founders created that when someone comes along speaking like our Founders not many in Congress have the ability to understand what he is saying.

So are you saying that the only thing Cruz does not know about the U. S. Constitution is that he is not eligible to be President? How smart could he be if he does not understand the simplest thing?

I checked your posting history and you have a little habit of calling other people DELUSIONAL.

Now, is that very nice?

Ted is no Reagan!

Cruz, unlike Reagan, doesn't attract blacks, disaffected Dems, people from every educational and socio-economic group, every religious group, and is a much more regional candidate who will NOT win red and/or purple states, should he be the nominee.

He is NOTHING like Reagan and he won't be up against a failed sitting president.

We really won’t know who is third, fourth and fifth until tomorrow at the earliest. You’re correct.

Would you prefer I use a different word?

You posted something that is your opinion, an opinion that is completely incorrect and out there as in an opium driven dream.

Yet once, a while back, he knew exactly what constituted a NBC; now he doesn’t....to his supposed benefit. *smirk*
