Do you understand the difference between eminent domain for a public purpose such as building a highway the public drives on vs. eminent domain for a private purpose such as enabling a developer to build a casino for his personal benefit?

Eminent domain is constitutionally provided for for the public interest. If you’re building a road or a school or a public hospital, you can use eminent domain for that — as long as the person whose property is taken is given “fair” compensation.
What Trump — and no one else — has advocated is the use of eminent domain for the benefit of private interests such as himself. he used it in Atlantic City for his casinos. He supports Kelo v. City of New London, which allows this abuse. (No other candidate does.)
How can something that will employ thousands, and be a host to millions per hear, be considered to only be for personal use?
Come on folks, this benefits many people, not just Trump.
I haven’t see this Cruz video yet, but on the merits Trump isn’t doing anything that baseball, football, and soccer stadiums don’t do.

Trump promises to build the wall and that means he’s absolutely going to do it.

It’s still private benefit. It’s not “public interest.”
And we shouldn’t be doing it for stadiums either. Let the team-owning billionaires build their own stadia.
When a corporation builds a casino, they are doing so for the private benefit of their shareholders. No matter how big the corporation is, the casino still only benefits their shareholders. That’s why the Kelo decision is so wrongheaded. Politically connected developers get to use the heavy hand of eminent domain for their own private benefit. And it’s wrong when football and baseball owners get the benefit of it and it’s wrong when Trump gets the benefit of it.
