Celebrity fashion designer and actor Waris Ahluwalia was not allowed to board a plane yesterday because he was wearing a turban.
The Sikh American celebrity - who you may know from Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel, several magazines' best-dressed lists, New York Fashion Week, and a famous Gap ad - tweeted about his experience as it was happening in an effort to raise awareness.
While on his way to board an Aeromexico flight from Mexico City to New York City on Monday morning, Sikh American Ahluwalia was stopped by security personnel who asked him to remove his turban. As Ahluwalia told the Washington Post, 'I said, 'I won't be taking off my turban here.'

If I have to take off my shoes then he can remove his turban.
If you like wearing turbans, live in your country where people wear turbans and burqa’s. This is America, like they say, do in Rome like the Romans do. Not interested in multi-culturism in United States of America. Come hete to assimilate with American culture or stay home.

“My turban and beard represent my commitment to equality and justice,” and has refused to board a return flight until Aeromexico meets his three demands:
1. A public apology
2. Sikh awareness training for airport security
3. Training on how to screen passengers with religious headwear.

Sure hope he likes Mexico.
Actually, it was in Mexico.
I know a Sikh gentleman who owns Khalsa Kirpans and makes some exquisite knives. He's one of the nicest gentlemen I've ever met.
Mexico is in America.
He’s the kind of guy who would ignore Air Arabia’s
admonition for all passengers to fasten their suicide belts.
Why the hostility? Sikhs are no threat to us.
Can you link to the part of the Constitution that mentions turbans?

We need a Christian version of the Sikhs...
Raising awareness my butt.
When a leftist with an agenda gets rebuffed by me, and they counter that they are "raising awareness" I immediately ask "Why? Is everyone so ignorant that they need their awareness raised by you? How did they survive for so long? without your awareness"
It is never "Raising Awareness". It is always "Furthering an Agenda". Either way, this guy makes me Sikh.
Famous? Never heard of him or her.
Plus, the Sikh’s dislike the Muslims at least as much as most of us.
Pretty stupid to alienate people on your side. They’ve directly suffered from Islam more than most of us.
Oh good lord. He wrote “United States of America.” I think we know what country he meant.
We’re all Mexicans now, especially New Mexicans, who I’m told had a head start.
I am pretty sure Sikh turbans cannot just be removed. They are elaborately wrapped up with their hair. I think the turbans are 30 feet long and with long hair, quite elaborate. They are not required to remove them here in the States.
