This assertion has been floating around ever since Angie hit the Billboard charts. According to urban legend it was written by Mick Jagger for Bowie's first wife, Angela who filed for divorce and fell into a deep depression when she found out David and Sir Mick had an "affair". It may be BS, but then again this is show biz and the way the nose candy flew around back then, and still does, who knows.

The female singer in the wardrobe with Bowie and Jagger was reportedly Bette Midler. The scene was a big party. I agree with dfwgator that a lot of these antics were staged or exaggerated to create a certain aura.

And we’re concerned over someone calling Cruz “girlie”.

You coulda knocked me over with a feather. Like you said, these people were half out of their minds most of the time, so anything is possible.

The takeaway here isn’t that he (may have) had some “different” experiences - but that the “coke fueled” episodes may have been causative in his liver cancer.

I never read she was depressed about it

This gossip came out back in that era

None of us paid much attention

The music was too good and fresh

That gossip was nothing compared to the Rod Stewart rumour...unfounded

I used to like him, then I saw the last video he made. Looking back on things, I just shake my head.

This video made by a dying man flaunting the occult and demon possession. Really really sad.

Who knows what to believe about this crowd?..I once read an interview with Bowie in which he categorically stated that he never had a homosexual experience in his life..he claimed he was just fascinated by the underground gay culture in London and incorporated the clothes and poses in his act..I saw him at the Tower theater in Philly in the early seventies and it is still one of the best rock and roll shows I ever saw.

Jagger never said if it was about anyone but Richards says different things at different times. You have to allow for Keith. Does he even know what he is saying?? He said the name was inspired by his daughter Angela. He later said it was about drugs. He said still later it was not about anyone-just a random name. Who can tell? The truth is this has been speculated about since it was released in 1973. Still no answers.
