After last week's surprise statements by two top generals that women should sign up for the draft just like men, Sen. Ted Cruz has set himself apart from his Republican rivals in the race for president by saying unequivocally that the idea is "nuts."
When questioned at a Senate committee hearing last week, the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Gen. Robert Neller and Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley both said they thought women should have to register for Selective Service when they turn eighteen, just like men.
During Saturday's presidential candidate debate in Manchester, N.H., everyone on stage who spoke seemed to be in favor of it.
"I have to admit, as I was sitting there listening to that conversation, my reaction was, 'Are you guys nuts?'" Cruz said of his rivals at a town hall style gathering in New Hampshire the next day. At a later campaign event he addressed the issue again, saying:...

I think the point the generals were trying to make is that if a select, vocal, and WRONG group of women want to be in combat roles, and force the issue, fine.
Conscript them all. When the majority decide life was better not having to think about mandatory conscription or having to kill another person, or possibly being raped while either being captured, or simply serving on a base somewhere in nowhere, they’ll tell the vocal minority to shove it.
I don't think they counted on most of the GOP candidates rolling over on the issue, though.
His dad was a Representative, not a Senator.
“I agree with Ted on this, however...if women want to be treated equally they should have to bear the same burdens.”
I think a screaming contingent of fat ugly lesbians has asked for (DEMANDED?) this, not “women” in general.
This retired military father of a little girl agrees with Ted on this issue. If she wants to join I will support her completely. But I cannot abide a government claim on my daughter (or anyone’s daughter) for the battlefield.
You really need to compare that to all the people who served in the military during the Vietnam war, not just those in the war zone. Millions served inside the USA, and other bases around the world during that time. But I'm against the draft in general because it's bad for the military, and an unnecessary attack on individual liberty. It also makes fighting wars more politically unpopular, which is why some Democrats love the idea. They also love the idea that the government has the right to conscript citizens for the military and non-military service. IMHO there should have to be a direct threat to the survival of the country with a DOW before we resort to it. I guess we could always put those women down on the border.

Face it,Cruz should be president.
He is absolutely the only honest man in the race.
Rita trying to turn the truth on its head changes nothing.
Trump and Rubio are sniveling liars and tricksters, and the rest behind them can’t even rise that high.
But what about the lesbians?
Waste of time and money when half the draftees can not be fighters.
Tell that to the female soldiers in the IDF's Caracal Battalion and see what happens next! ;-)
The idea that candidates are discussing this as an issue of "choice" or "rights", rather than military effectiveness, makes me ill.
By publicly opposing putting women in ground combat units, and backing it up with a comprehensive study, the Commandant of the Marine Corps gave conservative politicians the ammo to oppose Obama. It appears most of them are simply rolling over for the sake of political correctness/expediency.
Might as well elect Hillary or Bernie and just get it over with.

You mean honest, and truthful, like:
” Carson is not going to New Hampshire or South Carolina.”
” Carson is SUSPENDING his campaign. “
” ...so move the votes to Cruz. “????
I voted for Hunter in the primaries in ‘08. He was by far my favorite candidate in that election. Too bad most primary voters instead opted for a RINO who kissed Hussein’s ass and looked like he wanted no part of winning. Same as in ‘12.
.
Most of Carson’s original support did go to Cruz.
What is causing your insanity?
.
Mindless morons, much like Trump’s supporters now.
True. I was one of those men who didn’t ask to be drafted, but I was, in 1969.
Most of the “original” caucus vote sure went to Cruz too, given the IOWA outcome.
In my decades of experience, the best female pilots were. . . good. . .not excellent, not superb, just good.
This brings us to the discussion of natural warrior aggression in males versus merely acting aggressive. Meaning, the oft-mocked testosterone-driven aggression in males, this aggression is essential to “win,” to achieve, to dominate a thing or mission. In my experience, females when in a warrior environment act like they feel they should act, based on what they observe, and this is forced behavior, not natural, and is reflected in a certain “meanness” which is a far different thing than aggression and performance level is never really equal.
Male testosterone-driven behavior is seen in real life, and in popular media. Whenever a female is placed in a warrior environment they affect the rough language and behavior. . .even in popular media. This is tacit acknowledgement of my point—testosterone IS essential to being a warrior
There is a world of difference between natural aggression and meanness.
And then there is the media and their “Buffy” lie. Buffy can kick the poo out of any male of any size, even if Buffy is 100lbs. This lie permeates popular media and little females/girls are influenced and come to believe this is reality, not fiction. When the real world hits them back it is a shock (”I demand equality but you can’t hit me because I’m a girl!”).
But that is another discussion.
Rear-area ferry pilots, okay. Front line, not okay.
That is all I have to say as I am too tired to get into a more detailed debate at this time. . .wrong thread.
Cheers.
Ah yes, the myth of the Israeli Warrior Princess. Reason enough to draft 5’2” 120 pound fire breathers from Podunk High.
Suffice it to say that the differences are enormous. I'll never forget when an entire platoon of women refused to move through a swampy area. Directly ordered, and the response was "I'm not going in there." We were dumbfounded, but what are you going to do?
Fortunately, we had no inkling that women would be in the infantry, so we could just chalk it up as "one of those things."
And not only are injury rates higher among women who go through intense training, but there is the whole issue of pregnancy. Just on a raw numbers/staffing level, it's an asinine idea.
.
Why are you overlooking the fact that it was Carson’s manager that spread all of those rumors?
