Actually the tip of the downfield end of the ball did touch the ground if you look carefully.
That first Penalty against Caroline was absolutely ridiculous, then they lose a Time Out because their appeal was rejected.

Despite that, Carolina didn’t protect their QB and that cost them the game, the same way the Patriots lost their Playoff Game. A sacked QB doesn’t make too many great plays.
