NJ Gov(Christie) Signs Law Banning Counseling, Therapy for Youth Struggling With Homosexuality (2013

Reiterating his belief that homosexuality is 'not a sin,' the Republican governor of New Jersey signed a bill into law on Monday that bans the use of conversion or reparative therapy, or to otherwise help youth who are struggling with homosexual feelings to overcome their temptations.

Governor Chris Christie's office released a statement during the day outlining that Assembly Bill 3371 had been signed into law following its passage in both state houses in June.

Text of the bill notes that the law bans "the practice of seeking to change a person's sexual orientation, including, but not limited to, efforts to change behaviors, gender identity, or gender expressions, or to reduce or eliminate sexual or romantic attractions or feelings toward a person of the same gender." However, the regulation does not apply to counseling that seeks to affirm homosexual emotions or behaviors.

"Governor Christie is no friend of free speech," said President Brad Dacus. "The question here isn't if sexuality comes from birth or not; the question is 'Should we allow the government to restrict religious and constitutional freedoms because a forceful LGBT lobby says we should?' The answer to that question is a resounding 'No!'"

But he’s being used to take down other candidates.

Notice that he was under ZERO pressure that forced him to sign this.

He says he did it partly because the Catholic Church is wrong on homosexuals.

That suggests animosity to me.

I wouldn’t mind this posted daily.

Christie also claims to know more than God. He says that homosexual behavior is not sinful.

He HAS in fact donated to planned parenthood and is fine with banning guns.

Rubio could have shut him up real quick in New Hampshire if he mentioned banning guns. They love guns in New Hampshire.

Christie has been allowed to skate.

He’s a tool of those who want to attack other candidates.

There’s no reason to believe he has. If he was ever the star of a reality TV show, then we could believe it.

Nope, it specifically does NOT work the opposite way.

He hasn’t said that he has changed.

Besides all that, who is he to tell parents what their kids do or do not need?

I don’t get this. From the text of the bill, it would seem to ban even adults from choosing this therapy. In what universe is that even defensible?

Welcome to Christie world, where liberals are okay, and Obama is hugs and all can be absolutely blacked out on a primary debate stage.

Another attack on Bible-believing, God-fearing Christians (i.e., true Christians), especially those in pastoral ministry.

NJ not NY

Most homosexuals were MOLESTED as children.

The point of the therapy is to help them cope with the assault.

It IS “Rape Counseling”!!!!

I asked the mods to fix the title way back. They’ll get around to it. I don’t know when they come on duty, really. To be honest, I have no idea how they work.

In any case, you make a GREAT point! Rape counseling for so many.

And for others, SINCE we know now that homosexuality is NOT genetic, we are probably right that they’re simply being influenced by the media and culture that they’re immersed in. It’s no different than talking to kids about avoiding a crowd that focuses on drugs, and also doing individual drug education, counseling.

I agree.

Christie specifically said that one of his reasons for signing this was because he disagrees with his CHURCH.

Anti-religious sentiment I’d say, wouldn’t you?

He’s a cafeteria catholic of the first degree. He, along with Jebbie Bush, both go directly against the Catholic Church teachings on abortion, which is a “non-negotiable moral truth of the Church”, which is no abortion for any reason. Christie and Jebbie believe in murdering the child if they don’t who the father is, as in rape and incest.

The Catholic Church also says homosexual activity is an “intrinsic evil” and if you have the inclinations you have to live a chaste life. Their are many great ministries that work with those with same-sex attraction to drive this evil out of their mind. Jesus Christ is the answer and thousands have been saved from this evil and now either live chaste lives or are married to members of the opposite sex and living productive lives the way God intended.

So Christie goes directly against the teachings of “his faith” on abortion and homosexuality. But no one will call him on it at any debate, and Rubio doesn’t have gonads enough to look at Christie and Jebbie during a debate and ask them why they put politics over the Bible.

I believe all life is precious and a gift from God and deserves to be protected. Protestants can have a differing opinion on rape and incest exceptions and while I may disagree with it, I am not a protestant. But I am a Catholic and if you believe in abortion you can’t even call yourself Catholic, but these slimey politicians get away with it and they are never called out on it.

Regardless of how old this article is, and it’s subject per se, here’s a quote from the first article in a search for ‘is Christie Catholic?’

“My religion says it’s a sin. But for me, I have always believed that people are born with the predisposition to be homosexual”

The catechism actually states that no one knows whether people are born with it or not. That’s the scientific fact. No one knows.

My fellow northeastern Catholics are surrounded by people calling themselves Catholic who wouldn’t take tge minute nor the ten dollars to get the catechism, crack it open and find out what they are defying

This man would have just as much regard for the constitution. He has his own opinion and goes by that alone

Dangerous? He doesn’t have the chance of the proverbial snowball in hell.

Never underestimate the stupidity (or duplicity) of the GOPe in a brokered convention.

I suspect the other R candidates have avoided calling him out on this for very disappointing reasons.
