Ben Carson said late Saturday that Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas approached him during an off-camera break at ABCâs Republican debate to apologize for his campaignâs conduct during the Iowa caucuses and requested a one-on-one meeting with him.
âHe said heâs sorry that this happened and he wants to sit down and talk,â Carson said in an interview with The Washington Post. âHe wants to discuss the whole thing and clear the air.â
In the interview, Carson said pointedly that if the meeting with Cruz is scheduled, that does not mean the the senator will be absolved.
âThe evidence is there,â he said, citing voice-mails that his campaign has released of Cruz allies telling caucus-goers that Carson was likely to suspend his bid. âTapes, written communications, itâs all out there. People have to decide whether this kind of behavior is acceptable to them.â

“Cruz will have to fire the staffer or staffers responsible before this goes away.”
Too late. Expect those involved to get promotions soon for their actions. As Carson said, it shows a lot about character.
Yeah maybe.
The only thing Cruz did was walk into the ethanol lions lair and win in a Yugge way.
What his campaigners did is not even in question , all they did was repeat the CNN report that they picked up from the CARSON camp
Carson is polling around 2% or less and is upset the Cruz campaign is stating Carson will be dropping out? Dr. Carson had best put on his big girl panties and man up.
Cruz haters delude themselves that voters actually care about this.
Cruz probably does feel some responsibility for not putting out the later denial as that is what he has specifically apologized for in this mess, but he and his staff were doing what they were supposed to be doing during that time, trying to run a campaign and not spending their time checking twitter to see if Carson had replied. Beyond that, I think the only reason he’s being nice is to not alienate Carson’s supporters.
The longer Carson drags this out, the more likely it is that Cruz takes the gloves off.
— empty buses tooling around Iowa while Carson takes private jets?
— massive campaign funding efforts with a 50% cost? Where is the money going? who is getting rich from this while the campaign is bankrupt?
— staff layoffs while again Carson takes private jets home for clothes?
— no campaign events for days following Iowa, and nothing in NH until last night’s debate?
And, I find it hilarious that for some on this forum, CNN has now become the source of truth.
I saw an article last night that detailed Carson’s fundraising and spending. Someone on this forum was talking about how flush with cash Carson was because he raised more hard money that Cruz last quarter. And it is true that Carson raised $25M to Cruz’s $20M. But Carson also spent almost $30M last quarter (doing what, I don’t know). Based on the “burn rate”, it was expected that he had enough to get through the end of March at the latest. But with Carson losing his chief fundraiser and many from his main superPAC, the end could come a lot faster than that. So I am sure that is why he keeps beating this dead horse - to raise more money.
Cruz must care about it.
He has apologized once
And has begged Carson for a private meeting.
Then the LORD sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him: “There were two men in one city, one rich and the other poor. “The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds. But the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb which he had bought and nourished; and it grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food and drank from his own cup and lay in his bosom; and it was like a daughter to him. And a traveler came to the rich man, who refused to take from his own flock and from his own herd to prepare one for the wayfaring man who had come to him; but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.” Because the local media inferred that the poor man’s lamb may not be wanted anymore so without really checking the rich man....and justified the action in his own mind.
“I find it hilarious that for some on this forum, CNN has now become the source of truth.”
Especially because it was the source of truth for Cruz’s crack staff.
Begged?
Carson owns this BS
That kind of truth is what got Cruz into this mess. They were cut.
Even CRuz spokesperson/CNN commentator Amanda Carpenter - who was trying really hard to spin for CRuz - couldn’t refute the facts that were laid out.
Here’s the CaucusGate deconstruction vid/related article...

You can NEVER talk your way out of what you behaved your way into.
Carson did not beg Cruz for a private meeting
Cruz begged Carson for a private meeting.
Cruz has apologized THREE times, his explanations are so long winded any cop would slap the cuffs on, and now he want’s a sit down “to clear the air”.
I wouldn’t hire this guy to get me out of a traffic ticket.
touche! LOL
But you forget The Carson camp was the source of the story.
And seriously how was anyone to take the knew from Carson that I’n going to skip NH and SC to have a nap and wash my undies?
Ben doth protest to much.
Good too see him awake though
“if someone pulled this crappie on Cruz”
It would fail because Cruz doesn’t run a low energy campaign that is disorganized, lacks enough volunteers to cover the voting caucuses and can’t handle basic communication.
Carson... had all of those, but blames Cruz for his poor performance.
“You can NEVER talk your way out of what you behaved your way into.”
Lawyers often think they can.
All the major, respected analysis also showed that Trump had a lousy ground game and that a significant portion of his base (up to 25% by some accounts) did not show up. In other words, he got outworked.
Trump didn't put out sleazy mailers and call them normal.
I get a half dozen mailer like that every election. Get over yourself.
Trump's camp didn't put out tweets and phone messages saying Carson was out the day of the primary.
Neither did the Cruz camp, as has been proven numerous times. No one has yet been able to provide any evidence that they said Carson had quit. They said he was "taking a break from the campaign" and "suspending campaigning", which was an accurate representation of the information provided by CNN.
If Cruz did nothing wrong, why was he so quick to apologize?
Because he is an honorable man, and he thought there might have been something his campaign could have done to correct the false impression left by the CNN information they forwarded.
