A year ago, I wrote:

For me, the issue this US election season is the corruption. Sure, I'd like a balanced budget and less debt and repeal of Obamacare, but I'm getting used to being sold out on those issues. So I'm down to the bare minimum requirement for a politician: The corruption nauseates me, and, if it doesn't nauseate the candidates, then that explains a lot about why nothing happens on any of those other matters. It's in the air, it's in my nostrils, and I'm sick of choking on it. We have a "justice" department that prosecutes a senator who made the mistake of crossing the President (Menendez) but declines to do anything about a tax collector who treats American taxpayers differently on the basis of how they vote (Lerner). We have a revenue agency that regards itself as the paramilitary wing of the ruling party. We have replaced equality before the law with a hierarchy of privilege, so that no-name ambassadors can be fired for breaking federal record-keeping requirements by a department whose boss outsources her federal records to her own server and then mass-deletes them with no more thought than when she's parking her van in the handicapped space. We have a federal police agency in which 26 out of its 28 hair analysts gave false testimony favorable to the prosecution. We have a cabinet officer who managed to get more firepower deployed to toss her designated scapegoat videomaker into the county jail than she assigned to the US diplomatic compound in Benghazi. We have a president who rules by decree on everything from immigration to health care - and a legislature of castrati too craven to object.

I would like a candidate who promises to hose out the sewer.

No, we haven’t. But we (Cruz supporters) have to ask ourselves would we have preferred a victory in Iowa without the taint that has been caused by the tweet and mailer flaps? In your heart of hearts you must say yes.

It says much more than that.

If this is how Team Cruz treats the electorate before he's in office, just think what's in store for us after he is handed unbridled power. Please think.

Steyn is the best. A truly honest (and honest with himself) observer of American politics.

People should, and are, beginning to see through the “purity” of Cruz. I don’t expect politicians (or anyone) to be angels. That’s naive.

But there is an accumulating trail of evidence that this is standard practice for this campaign, and this candidate. This has me worried....

Say whatever you want about Donald Trump, but if you act like this in business your reputation is shot. Trust is the currency of business, and obviously people trust Trump.

If you run as honest, consistent, earnest, blah blah blah, a scandal that sticks to your character will damage you. And rightfully so.

His campaign is about returning our country to its Constitutional foundation. This means that NO president will be handed “unbridled power.”

Having a relationship with God, is not the only thing that matters here.

My Observations:
• Most American/American Voters don't have a relationship with God.
• To an atheist or practical atheist, a candidate's religiosity is neutral at best and a strong negative at worst.
• Most American voters base their decision on dubious perceptions, information or opinions.
• God chooses all winners. Psalm 75 5 Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck. 6 For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. 7 But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.
• God honors those who honor Him. 1 Samuel 2:30 Wherefore the Lord God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the Lord saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
• An orthodox understanding of God, born of knowing God's Word and a Holy Spirit filled relationship with God is the only way a candidate's functional worldview will be in touch with reality resulting in good decisions. Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
• The candidate's eternal salvation is more important than winning or saving America. Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
• If you give an evil man the power of the Presidency you expand his capacity to heap up God's wrath against himself and his people. Romans 9:17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.
• Evaluating a candidate's understanding of God, his relationship with God and his fruitfulness in life, is a Christian voters essential and indispensable tool determining the vote and political support regardless of the outcome. Matthew 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
• Christian candidates and voters should never concern themselves with anything beyond their own power (like looks and perceptions) but should always vote for the blessing. Deuteronomy 11:26 Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse;

Campaign rhetoric and performance in office can be completely different. We have seen that many, many times.

At my house Old Glory has been replaced by the Confederate Flag. From time to time I switch it back and forth with the Texas flag.
