People that get confused by LinkedIn are pretty much advertising their internet cluelessness. Think of it as a filter to get rid of the useless.

LinkedIn is one giant spam machine.

I'm not on LinkedIn. After getting some "friend" requests (or whatever they call them) from people I didn't know, I blacklisted everything from this outfit in my spam blocker. I have also blacklisted everything from Facebook for exactly the same reason.

I’ve never taken any of their paid subscriptions. It might be worth it for the ability to communicate with people you are not connected to.

Let me say to the group. If you are a professional you are missing an opportunity. LinkedIn is huge for networking. You can search for people in companies you are interested in. If you are connected, when you call them to network its an automatic tie-in to them.

Because my skills are in demand, I get emails frequently from recruiters. I can see when my colleagues change jobs, I can drop them a note to congratulate them on.

You don’t have to give them your contacts BTW. Please, if you are ever job hunting, do not avoid LinkedIn.

Thanks for contributing a reasoned reply. So, what do you think of the 45% stock price drop? Opportunity? Or more of the same ahead?

I think the professional reasons people use LinkedIn remain true. My company may be hiring soon and to help in the search I will be looking at my connections and their connections to see what talent might be available. I’m not sure how much the stock price comes back, but the value it provides is real and I could see subscribing.
