"Ted Cruz: Not a Fan of Pride Parades
Whether the issue is marriage equality or critical protection from discrimination, Texas Senator Ted Cruz has consistently opposed equality for LGBT Americans. And heâs gone even further, attacking fellow Republicans for marching in pride parades, warning of the threat of âmandatory gay marriageâ and calling 2016 the âreligious liberty election.â He has vowed to make his opposition to LGBT equality a centerpiece of his presidential campaign, and he has thus far lived up to that promise.
Marriage: As Solicitor General, Ted Cruz led the charge to deny Texas couples marriage equality. In the Senate, he has supported a constitutional amendment that would prevent the federal government from recognizing marriage equality and an amendment placing members of the Supreme Court up for election. He even said that Justice Anthony Kennedy should resign and that the Obergefell ruling threw the Supreme Courtâs âvery legitimacy into question.â He has said a ruling in favor of marriage equality was âfundamentally illegitimate.â Cruz has promised to campaign âfront and centerâ on his opposition to marriage equality.
Discrimination: Cruz has consistently opposed granting critical nondiscrimination protections to LGBT Americans. Cruz has opposed both local ordinances that would have protected LGBT people in cities in Texas, and ENDAâs explicit federal workplace protections. Cruz has said â2016 will be the religious liberty electionâ and defended harmful discriminatory legislation in Indiana and Arkansas. Cruz stood behind Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, and said he would âabsolutelyâ push for enactment of the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA) in his first 100 days in office. Executive Orders: Cruz has said that undoing President Obamaâs executive orders would âabsolutelyâ be one of the first things he would do if elected, and said that every protection Obama put in place âcan be undone in an instant by the next president through the same mechanism.â
Conversion Therapy: Cruz has refused to speak out against âconversion therapyâ that coerces minors into âtreatmentâ that can lead to depression and suicide. He believes that being LGBT is a personal choice.
Harmful Rhetoric: Cruz has no problem about using equality as a wedge issue against fellow Republicans â heâs attacked Republicans for appearing in pride parades, and having âNew York valuesâ such as supporting LGBT rights, and suggested that he believes being LGBT is a âchoice.â Heâs called letting kids use the bathroom that reflects their gender identity âlunacyâ. Cruz has claimed that the Obergefell ruling would lead to âmandatory gay marriage.â He even bragged about intervening in a case to stop a civil union."
Excellent post.
Fact filled and accurate.
I don’t think Ted Cruz hates anyone but he loves the constitution.
And you think that stance is going to win him the general election based on what you see of society today?
>>He believes that being LGBT is a personal choice.<<
I guess he has never known any gay people who fought against it for years.
Medicine has known for over 100 years that there are at least two major categories: Those who appear to be genetically determined from birth, and those that are “environmentally” determined, like those who go homosexual in prison.
I’m not trying to tell anyone what to think; but if Cruz thinks it is a “personal choice” for all gays, he is simply mistaken. Ought to get out a little, maybe meet some of the actual people whom you seek to legislate for.
what is this crap of equality. Before men straight or homno could not marry another guy same for women.
Now that was equal and equality.
Now for cross dressers, if you are born with a penis then you are male.
Funny how a white women claimed she was black and in the NAACP , but when people found out she lost the job and people said she had some mental problems.
So you can’t claim another race, but another gender is alright to these idiots with no common sense.
