During an interruption from a person Donald Trump described as a "Bernie plant," another audience member shouted out: "Immigrants are the backbone of this country."
"No," Trump responded. "I don't think so, darling. They're not the backbone. I'll tell you what... Let me just tell you something. You know the backbone of our country? People that came to this country legally and they worked their ass off and made this country great."

“Trump is the only one in the race that the founding fathers would admire:”
That’s an awefully tall order for anyone! Let’s look at just a couple of their major complaints from the Declaration of Independence.
These are from the list of abuses that is specifically included.
“He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.” and “He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.”
That’s pretty close to modern day “buying favors” with Politicians. I admit that it is not exact, but it is close.
“For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:”
No explanation necessary.
“For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:”
Has Trump had an actual core belief shift away from a wealth tax? I know he thinks the debt is too big for a wealth tax to work now, but I haven’t heard him say that he has actually changed his mind on the issue.
Then of course, we have this phrase: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.-”
We all know that pursuit of happiness is intended as a declaration of the nature of private property being sacrosanct. I’d say that Trump’s thinking that the use of eminent domain as a wonderful thing, is quite contrary to the thinking of our Founders.
Trump’s thinking is closer to the thinking of the British empire of they day than it is to our Founders. However, that is certainly not limited to him alone. There are many in this race that would make the same list.
However, to make the claim is to not have any understanding of the Founding Fathers.

Yes, a single Senator could not drive the Establishment off their power hold mostly by himself.
But according to the Democrats, Cruz single-handedlt shut down the entire Federal Government! That’s got to count for something...

True, however most of those ancestors were assimilated and reveled in becoming Americans! That is a world of difference between then and now (since sometime in the 60’s.)

I can’t tell if you are saying that in support of Trump or in opposition to him.
I agree with him that we need to control the border for both security and immigration control reasons. However, I want us to get back to an attitude of assimilation of all legal immigrants. Our current attitude actually demonizes that position...
If, as you say, Trump likes the legal kind no matter when they showed up, then I would say that my position is in opposition to his broader philosophy.

Welcome, and I pretty much agree with all your sentiments and experiences.
My paternal great great grandfather immigrated from Germany in ca. 1845 to Indiana. My maternal great, great, great, great, great grandfather from Scotland in 1703 to the Carolinas. My paternal grandmother from Germany in the early 1900s. All immigrants. Trump’s mother from Scotland in the late 30’s or early 40’s, I believe. Immigrant.
Don’t care when they came, but they’re all okay with me.
But assimilation is the key. Not settling a newly claimed territory for their former countries.

The Declaration of Independence was first and foremost to state that our 'Rights' come from our 'Creator' - and secondarily to justify our separation from England. You are twisting everything completely out of context in order to fit your meme. May I suggest you read Meacham's biography of Jefferson, "Thomas Jefferson, The Art of Power."
