The first woman in Tennessee and the fourth in the nation to enlist as a combat engineer in the Army went AWOL last month and is now considered a deserter, according to a military spokesperson.
Erika Lopez made headlines in July when she enlisted for a role that could put her on the front lines of battle, just after the U.S. Army lifted its ban on women in combat roles.
Ms. Lopez was in basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, by September but was placed on convalescent leave by the end of the year, according to a local CBS affiliate.

Thanks, I think they are the same as the Seabees only the Army.
Daddy was in the Combat Engineers and they spent most of their time behind the lines repairing roads bridges etc. Most of their casualties were from clearing mines and artillery. At one time they were losing so many men and machines that they had to work at night.
Every now and then they were the tip of the spear tho and at least once were turned into infantry because the Germans had counterattacked, destroyed their bridge and were near to pushing us back into the river.
And what about that almost-a-Confederate flag?

I'm a Luddite. Don't know how civilization doesn't have rules with roles predominantly filled by men and women. Some outliers?....for sure. But,mygosh, if women don't maintain the house, care for the kids, relate to their communities, give a guy some direction and obligation, society breaks down.
We had two go AWOL, on came back one day before being declared a deserter (he got a medical discharge with a promotion to E4), the other came back a few months later (he got a slap on the wrist, busted to E1, extra duty, barracks confinement). They were both E2’s when they skipped out.
That and the ACU is designed to be worn loose.
It does appear that the uniform is of the maternity variety.
Both of those women have that warrior look.
How many times do they get to go through the chow line?

If my sons have to register why shouldn’t your daughters? Females want the combat slots because it helps promotion and career progression.
Not because they think they’ll see combat.
