The first woman in Tennessee and the fourth in the nation to enlist as a combat engineer in the Army went AWOL last month and is now considered a deserter, according to a military spokesperson.
Erika Lopez made headlines in July when she enlisted for a role that could put her on the front lines of battle, just after the U.S. Army lifted its ban on women in combat roles.
Ms. Lopez was in basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, by September but was placed on convalescent leave by the end of the year, according to a local CBS affiliate.

I am well aware of that.
This is a gag-line from a well known sitcom.
Ummm ok Gaijin lol.
God bless all five of them
I support registering all women for the draft at age 18 ,,, and letâs see how that goes over for those equal rights fems .
Even conservative, pro-life women who are anti-feminist and want to be wives and mothers, like our own mothers and grandmothers were? Why would you punish traditionalist young women by subjecting them to selective service, in order to make a statement against feminists?
Join the military, it’s now family friendly.
“Training at Ft. Leonard Wood is lots easier than say at Ft. Benning.”

I’m not sure Basic would be any easier but AIT probably is. I did OSUT (One Station Unit Training) at Benning in the mid-80’s. The difference between Basic and AIT for us was that we were allowed to wear soft caps in the Company area in AIT. For Basic we always had to wear helmet liners. For 16 weeks we had the same barracks, same Drill Sgts, same speed marching to all the rifle ranges instead of Cattle Cars and I was wishing I’d gone in to Supply instead of Infantry.
I liked Eileen Brennan as Captain Lewis.
Do you know who these women are?
These are the Defense Ministers for the following NATO countries:
Albania's Mimi Kodheli, Netherland's Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, Germany's Ursula von der Leyen, Norway's Ine Marie Eriksen Soreide and Italy's Roberta Pinotti

Beautiful and inspiring poster. Thank-you for sharing. Are they like the Seabees?
Interesting. She is considered a deserter, while Bergdahl would went AWOL for much longer is considered a hero?
It’s even easier at Ft “Relaxin” Jackson
I just cannot fathom women in the Combat Engineers or Infantry.
There was something very delicate and nuanced about Ms. Brennan’s performance that stuck me when I first watched in the 70’s and remembered for years. It’s nice you saw the same.
What? She couldn’t get pregnant like all the other cooks?
