Ben Carson and his closest advisers are going nuclear against Ted Cruz and his campaign for spreading false rumors that he intended to drop out ahead of the Iowa caucuses.
Carson's close friend and adviser Armstrong Williams told The Hill in an interview on Wednesdaythat the Cruz campaignâs tactics were 'nasty, brutal and deceitful.'
'We've been told all along that Cruz's operatives play dirty and were capable of this stuff, but Dr. Carson never believed it, he felt like they had a respectable operation,' Williams said. 'Now we see firsthand that having integrity just doesn't matter to them. It's about honor and character, either you have it or you don'.t'
Williams said he's certain that Cruz knew the rumors about him dropping out were false but says the Texas Republican allowed his underlings to spread it anyway.
'He's a pure politician and will do anything to win,' Williams said. 'It doesn't matter who he does it to, friend or foe, whatever it takes to win. Cruz has been running as an outsider and calling Hillary Clinton dishonest. Well, Cruz is the one running without honor or integrity, and this shows he's just like everyone else inside-the-beltway.'
Carson has demanded Cruz fire those responsible for spreading the rumor, but Cruz has said he won't do that.
"After all the candidates worked so hard, and Dr. Ben Carson had a staff member lose his life working towards this day, to have someone like Cruz and his people deceive and spread falsehoods is unconscionable," Williams said.

why don’t we just throw the Constitution while you’re at it?
Carson got 10% or so of the vote, a respectable amount for a marginal candidate.
How curious.
Couldn't be selective "outrage" 'cause Cruz is the front-runner...and Rubio isn't...could it?
Remember who helped allow the vote on ObamaTRADE
because it was SECRET and helped Obama
and helped GOldman Sachs, and he had SECRET loans.
I agree. I’m wondering if Rubio will be our candidate.
I’d give him pretty good odds at this point.
His opposition is Bush, Kasich, and Christie: Larry, Moe, and Curly Joe.
I assume you mean the act of Cruz passing on information they heard on CNN.
Low down? Are you kidding?
We haven’t heard from Carson in a couple months. He headed home to change clothes. Any campaign that had anything pointing to another candidate dropping out the night of a vote would be idiotic NOT to bring it up to voters.
Rubio didn’t take the rumor to the caukus floor. Club Cruz did.
I expect if they had the tweet trail on Rubio the way they do on Cruz that they’d be going after both.
Rubio will get crushed in the general.
Is Trump paying Carson for this feigned outrage? That is the only question. Grow up, Dr. Carson.
Who’s that, the Dan Gabriel in post 4?
Hows the weather out there in la la land?
I am amazed that there is anyone left in the Carson campaign left to be angry. Well before the “rumor” a lot of staff and fundraisers bolted to Cruz.
Not even Steve King brought the rumor to the caucus floor when he spoke for Cruz at his own neighborhood caucus.
in part, its Carsons fault anyone believed it given how bad his campaign is. But he should just leave and endorse The Donald already. I could see Trump putting him in the Trump Administration or maybe veep. Doctors are smarter than most politicians.
Our pure heart Cruz indeed has hired the nastiest team he could assemble. I have been taught to pay attention to the people around a leader it says a lot about them. It reminds me of a former friend who hired the nastiest divorce lawyer he could afford and tried to tell us his goal was to be fair. B.S. to my former friend and B.S. to the principled conservative in the race, Mr. Cruz.
Because Rubio’s team only re tweeted what was said. Cruz’s team went forward with the narrative that he had dropped out. Rubio’s team said: what does this mean? A legit question. Cruz’s team told people that Carson was dropping out. Big difference and Carson knows it.
READ THE TWEET. Cruz’ man did NOT say a thing that CNN did not report. This is so much BS.
Look to why he wanted to up those H1b visas.
Because he is an outsider?
Because he has a connection to Accenture?
Because....I don’t know the answer
Rubio will not be my candidate.
