IN 1999, Sydney was at its peak. The Olympic Games were imminent and there was unbridled optimism that Sydney was about to emerge as an international city as the millennium approached.
Internationally, Sydney was renowned as an incredibly fun place to live; the entertainment was world class, with great restaurants and venues to visit at any time of night.
Something pernicious has happened in the 17 years since, and Sydney has not just regressed into a ghost town, but there is an undercurrent of something much more sinister in the way the city is being run.
As I write this in 2016, not a day goes by without the press reporting of yet another bar, club, hotel, restaurant or venue closing.
Walk up Bayswater Rd, Oxford St or the 'Golden Mile' in Kings Cross and club after club is closed; not just after 1.30am, but permanently.
A few months ago the perennial Flinders bar in Darlinghurst closed. Then the century-old Exchange Hotel shut down, which held six venues including the Phoenix, live music hall Spectrum, and the upstairs pool hall Q-Bar. Following that, the evergreen Goldfish bar in Kings Cross. Then Soho.
Every week, another venue or restaurant closes. The soul of the city has been destroyed.
Kings Cross, in particular, has been decimated so badly that it will never, ever, come back as an entertainment precinct. Hugo's Lounge closing, which was the swankiest bar in Sydney for 15 years and voted Australia's best nightclub five years running, was the final nail in the coffin for the area.
The venue also housed the 130-seat Hugo's Pizza, which had not just won Best Pizza Restaurant in Australia at the Australian Restaurant & Catering Awards, but was also named the World's Best Pizza in the American Pizza Challenge in New York.

The health nonsense started with smoking bans, which non-smokers wanted.and we were warned that it would get worse.
Looks like it has in Sydney.
Time to vote some folks out.

The Gay & Lesbian community has been particularly hard hit. Oxford Street, the social mecca for the community and the world famous Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, is likewise now a wasteland with sea of shut down venues and For Lease signs after an 82% drop in foot traffic from 2012 to 2015. On top of this, venues have also been told by licensing police that LGBTI day clubs are now banned.

How do “islamic Muslims” differ from regular Muslims? Are the latter un-Islamic in some manner?
I disagree with your assessments here, but we all have our own facts to by. I did post only 476,291 Muslims, but this was back in 2011 (as stated by wiki)
So, I'll enlighten you and tell you now - -that I've have gone through the hassle of quickly visiting many sites online (as I should have taken the time to do before making my post #9, but I was being lazy) -and in just the past 45 minutes- I can confidently post that the total Muslim population of Australia is now upwards of 4.5 million!!
Face it natural, you truly have your own Alamo situation down there and I'm sorry for that.
And as you state, your govt officials are partially to blame...for the actual number of bars closing, but I'm looking at the big picture. Along with the UK, Germany and many other European countries, I'm holding back on visiting any of them - - - -including Australia!! But, then again, this is just me. I'd say that Australia should now be on the no visit zone entirely until Australia deports a large amount of their islamic Muslims. imho :(
(and of course, you're welcome to come back and post any rebutals you'd like to post my friend, but I'm satisfied that I've made my point)
Well, with five tourists beheaded last week in Syria, I personally am taking -the ole country hick approach and saying: 'keep em all away from me"....lol.
Whatever source is claiming that is utterly delusional. Just because you saw it on the internet doesn't make it true. Australia has not acquired ten times as many Muslims since 2011 as it had then - and that is what you are claiming.
That is absurd and insane.
I can't respond to it in any other way. It defies the laws of reason.
Well, let me step back a moment and put it in 2nd graders terminology for you so you can post a more knowledgable reply.
The majority of Australian citizenry now stay in their homes at night -especially women- every night of the week - and not go anywhere, no shopping, no movies, nothing at night. For now, they're just too flat out scared, imho. Period!!
I think I stayed at a Bed-n-Breakfast for a couple nights in Kings Cross in the early 90s. No interest in the night scene though, was sound asleep at those hours.
I have a Masters in History - and decades of life experience including over two decades as a Naval officer. And I live in Australia. I'm not poorly educated or poorly informed. And what you are posting is ridiculous.
Let's just look at this logically for a second.
Australia's population according to the 2011 Census was 22,300,000. Today, four and a bit years later, the population is a bit under 24,000,000.
That's an increase since 2011 of about 1.7 million.
You are claiming that Australia's population in 2011 contained 476,291 Muslims.
Even if every single one of the 1.7 million more people we've acquired in four and a bit years were Muslim, it'd still only come to about 2.2 million - half of the number you are claiming, apparently based on something you found on the internet - I'd love for you to give us a link to wherever this piece of information that Australia supposedly had 4.5 million Muslims comes from.
Put it another way - you're claiming that Australia went from being 2.2% Muslim to around 20% Muslim in five years.
That's utterly ludicrous. It's insane.
Did the 476,000 Muslims who were here in 2011, all have ten kids each in the last five years? Even the ones who were children themselves?
No. Maybe you believe this. Maybe it's what something on the internet has told you. But it's garbage. It's ridiculous garbage. It defies reason and common sense.
The majority of Australian citizenry now stay in their homes at night -especially women- every night of the week - and not go anywhere, no shopping, no movies, nothing at night. For now, they're just too flat out scared, imho. Period!!
Bull. I live here. No large groups of people is scared in the way you describe. And they certainly haven't become more scared in the last five years because of Muslims.
You've slid off the side of the bed again by misrepresenting what I stated.
You've stated here: "Whatever source is claiming...." singular, not plural -making it come across as if I checked - - 'one' source. I spent 45 minutes and checked 18 separate sources for current Muslim population. So, please don't assume what I've done/checked thanks.
They are talking utter crap. But it's hard to address that if you won't tell us where the utter crap is.
Just apply common sense to this - how can anybody sensibly claim claim that Australia has TEN TIMES as many Muslims as it had four or five years ago?
That a country with 24 million people in total somehow acquired 4 million more of one minority religion in four years or five years ago?
Don't know about ten, but 8 would do it. I'll find and post all the sites that I visited and did quick math - and post them here along with others I find along the way. We can both sit and casually read along with our calculators at hand enjoying some popcorn and I'll bet when we're done, the figures we add up will be at or close to the figures I've postd. Not all tonight though; over the next 24 hours might work -it's getting a bit late now.
It’s global warming!

Read this thread at one go and seriously Apple your posts make you look like an idiot.
As for the news story, you've posted - I'm very well aware of that riot - in fact, I posted about them here on Freerepublic when they happened. Things like that do happen occasionally and they are newsworthy but they are also pretty isolated events involving fairly small numbers of people - a few hundred. It wasn't large scale.
Well, I'll post links as I fast as I can but without sounding as if I'm backtracking on the 4+million population, I will say, that for time's sake I was typing and reading and adding up quickly during that 45 minute time frame.
And btw, a total count of the muslim population might be impossible to determine because just like in Gemany, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Greece and so many other countries, there has been a very large percentage of muslims - who don't register with the govt. or simply disappear within the population. Lastly it's going to be imperative to 'deport' islamic muslims - even if at a slow pace as has begun now in Germany and Sweden, this must begin in Australia, imho.
So, suffice it to say, that after we add up what we can-at whatever sites we can find - muslims, I'd say, are still overrunning Sydney as is the case in so many cities throughout Europe and Scandanavia, Italy and Greece.
(and btw, I too have a degree/just a meager bachlor degree in history for whatever that's worth)
