RE: the rumor really originated with Ben Carson, and then was reported by CNN as though he was dropping out!
From another thread, it seems that the timeline was:
about 4 PM or so, CNN tweeted that Cruz was going to Florida for R&R.
It was re-tweeted by Team Rubio at about 6:30 PM
Team Cruz re-tweeted it near the start of the caucus at about 7 PM.
Show the tweet by Cruz that says Carson is going for some R&R
Team Cruz tweeted that Carson was dropping out of the campaign, not going to FL for R&R.
Cruz seems to refuse to take responsibility for anything.
You missed the part where Steve King tweeted out to all the Cruz staffers that Carson was dropping out of the race and Iowans should not waste their vote.

Fox is not saying jack about Rubio re-tweeting it...
I'm disappointed in Team Cruz. They need to retweet faster next time.
Eckersley calls e-mail a hoax, says heâs still in the race (AUDIO)
October 29, 2010 by Brent Martin
Southwest Missouri Congressional candidate Scott Eckersley blames the campaign staff of his Republican opponent for issuing a hoax that he had suspended his campaign.
An e-mail sent to news media outlets and a âtweetâ issued by a fake Twitter account announced that Eckersley had suspended his campaign due to personal reasons.
Eckersley blames his opponent, Republican Billy Long, for sending out the hoax days before the election.
âYou know this is dirty politics. This is Jeff Roe-style management. Thatâs who Billyâs retained. Thatâs who he writes the big checks to,â Eckersley tells Missourinet affiliate KTTS. âThis is Kansas City management doing what they do best, which is playing dirty.â
An e-mail sent through a Yahoo account claimed that Eckersley had suspended his campaign from Congress until further notice due to personal matters that had arisen over the last several days. Eckersley says it was a fake.
Q: What did the 2010 campaign in Missouri, and the Ted Cruz campaign, have in common?
A: Jeff Roe
Same dirty trick was used back then, as now. I just don’t buy that the rumor originated anywhere else but with “someone” in Cruz’s campaign staff.
