Donald Trump's near third-place finish in the Iowa caucuses Monday night left the outspoken Republican presidential candidate open to mocking in his home state of New York, as well as in the national media.
The New York Daily News proclaimed that Trump was a "dead clown walking" who sounded "like [a] beaten man" in his measured speech congratulating Ted Cruz on his victory.
The New York Post declared Trump to be "Cruz-ified" and left humbled by runner-up status.
Meanwhile, The Des Moines Register, the largest newspaper in Iowa, focused on Cruz's victory:
Trump had bashed Cruz for weeks leading up to Monday's caucuses, going after his Canadian birth and accusing him of being a liar while Cruz for a time in January knocked Trump over his "New York values."
Cruz took 27.7 percent in Iowa, followed by Trump, at 24.3 percent, and Marco Rubio, at 23.1 percent. Cruz and Rubio outperformed opinion polls, while Trump came in several points below most polls heading into Monday.
Conservative columnist Jennifer Rubin on Tuesday labeled Trump "just another loser" in The Washington Post, while Chris Cillizza commented that with the loss, "the Trump balloon has sprung a leak."
Under the headline, "In Iowa, the Emperor has no clothes," U.S. News & World Report's Emily Arrowood wrote that "the self-proclaimed consummate winner, is now officially a loser."
And the conservative National Review, which put out an "Against Trump" issue last month, said in an editorial Tuesday that "having been beaten, Trump no longer looks unbeatable."
The only thing worse than a sore loser is an insufferable winner.
You mean like buying politicians?
CNN covers the DDT rally.
CNN reports Carson is bypassing NH + SC
Cruz + Rubio camps pick it up
Carson is crushed and responds 2 hours later (taking a nap)
Future?
Trump calls for re-vote, Carson gets a promise of an appointment. (just projecting)
The very one whom everyone thought would stoop to buying an election was gracious and loving to his supporters, and maturely goes on vowing to win the next one. The one who ran as a choirboy and elder of the Church of Nice acts like a high school letterman vying for student council on a raft of dirty tricks, and his people are doing victory laps. Who will voters believe? They will align themselves with the one whose heart most closely matches their own.
Sore Winnerman
Thank you.
Let me understand this: when Trump says he will fix what’s broken in our financial system and our borders, he’s exaggerating and lying. But when he says he bedded a bunch of women back in the day, he’s telling the absolute, precise truth.
There were willing women involved in this stuff, too, one may safely assume. A close friend of mine was once married to a wealthy man who was very good looking and outgoing. The sheer numbers of women who threw themselves at him constantly was astonishing. They sent dirty emails and left their underpants on his desk. What man in his 30s and 40s wouldn’t be subject to great temptation?
The Bible says even thinking of it is as bad as doing it; yet many on this Forum can’t stop themselves from thinking about it like a bad porn film in their minds running non-stop. That’s on them; not on the candidate, nor on Abraham who slept with his concubine nor on King David who killed his love rival to take his wife in the Bible they revere.
And if such a man with whom many women hoped to “score” gave in to temptation, and then repented or at least regretted it enough to stay with the present wife for 18 years with no reports of scandal, why does that count for nothing with the holier-than-thou people on this Forum who couldn’t get even one other person to look their way if they tried?
I was just thinking about ALL the crud that will be coming out against DDT. Won’t be pretty. May in fact ruin him. You know the Clintons have already promised protection to those who are afraid to speak out.
Any negative comments about DDT...historically dangerous
NY Times 1983...
“His alternating skills of charming some individuals and riding roughshod over others has earned Donald Trump a reputation in some quarters as someone not to be trusted. He reneged, for example, on a promise to donate to a museum the Art Deco bas- reliefs on the facade of Bonwit Teller’TMs - bulldozed to make way for Trump Tower. It was a sin deemed unforgivable by landmark preservationists. But the only negative comments about Donald Trump these days are given off the record. [WHY - I wonder?]”
