How Trump let himself get out-organized
Politico ^

Posted on 02/03/2016 12:33:54 AM PST by springwater13

Trump's backers maintain that the most painful part of his loss to Cruz, by a 3.3-percentage-point margin, is that it never should have happened. Trump actually won the battle for supporters, they believe, especially among nontraditional Republican voters, but he lacked the tools to get them to participate in Iowa's Byzantine caucus system. As a result, a candidate who could have been vaulted into New Hampshire with huge momentum on top of an impressive polling lead is instead looking shrunken and chastened.

Trump's staff "got outclassed and outmaneuvered ― the Iowa team simply didn’t have the tools they needed, which is why they overpromised and underperformed," said a source close to the Trump campaign. "The Iowa team did an amazing job with the tools that they had, but that's like saying that Al Qaeda did an amazing job in a battle with the U.S. Army because some Al Qaeda fighters didn’t get killed."

At one point early in the campaign, Trump representatives talked to Cambridge Analytica ― the firm now being credited with engineering Cruz’s cutting-edge targeting operation ― about retaining the company’s services, but they decided it was too expensive.

The campaign's lackadaisical data effort is seen in some quarters as coming down to Trump's lack of willingness to use his own cash on something that's seen as essential in modern-day presidential politics. "Trump's a businessman," said Joe Rospars, who served as a chief digital strategist to President Barack Obama's 2008 and 2012 campaigns. "He's not going to spend any more money than he has to, and he made his bet."

The Ted & Rubio donors and voters are confused now at what to do.

I can't speak for the Rubio voters, but here in Georgia, we Cruz supporters are just doing our part locally. We had our county meeting last night, organizing local door-to-door, phone calling to South Carolina, social networking to promote Cruz, and later local phone calling. We are simply go ahead according to plan. If we win, great, if not, not. But we are not confused. Oh, and I was LESS annoyed at the umpteenth fund-raising e-mail after the Iowa win, and actually threw some money the campaign's way. I'm not the only one.

lies about his opponents.
There was a confusing report from CNN that was misspoken about and apologized for. What else have you got in the department of so-called lies about opponents?

Let’s see. An apology will magically replace the votes that Cruz took from Carson? Oh, and on caucus night having his minions also tell all of the voters that Trump was for Obamacare and amnesty? How about those votes? I’m sure if Cruz had of realized Rubio would do so well he would have had some good lies to spread about him too.

By the way, CNN did not say Carson was suspending his campaign. Cruz supporters deliberately twisted the facts and announced it at caucus sites.

I expect during campaign season candidates to point out differences in policies and question each other’s positions. I do not expect them to flat out lie. Of course, I expect voters to be marginally intelligent also and I’ve been sorely disappointed there.

Problem you have there is your flip-flop Liberal candidate is for Obamacare, namely Trumpcare which he says will be bigger than Obamacare and the government is going to pay for it and Trump is for touch-back amnesty. To say those are lies is a lie. LoL!

I don’t know how many people were put off, I seriously doubt in this age with information literally at peoples fingertips it was many.

LOL and you are right there spreading the same lies. You know full well Trump is not for Obamacare or Trumpcare as you call it, he is for expanding health insurance across state lines. You should understand that, Teddy picked it up just recently.

Trump is also not for touch back amnesty, he is for deporting all illegals and NO ONE comes in except in line, legally. That is certainly much clearer than Teddy’s “we’ll have a conversation about that.”

As for the number of people who had their minds changed or messed with - the turnout was incredibly high meaning many were first time voters, not understanding the caucus process at all. Easily confused and never dreaming they would go there and be lied to.

Ted Cruz says this 2-year-old tweet proves that Donald Trump 'SUPPORTS amnesty'

Here is your Liberal candidate pushing straight out amnesty before he flip-flopped to touch back amnesty.
Donald Trump on Illegal Aliens interview with Bill O'Reilly

Here is your Liberal candidate saying Muslims must be allowed into to the USA, before he flip-flopped on that.
Donald Trump Tells Bill OReilly The US Has to Take Syrian Migrants

Here is your Liberal candidate wanting government to pay for healthcare:
On the question of universal healthcare, Trump said: "I am going to take care of everybody. I don't care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody's going to be taken care of much better than they're taken care of now. "The government's going to pay for it.

Here is your Liberal candidate talking on TV about dating his daughter.

I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised at how very dishonest Cruz is, his supporters are exactly the same.

Cruz knew and knows full well that the tweet was arguing against the Gang of 8 bill, you have included videos that are edited and I won’t even address your sick slander about Trump’s daughter.

I gave you videos of Trump in his own words. Too bad your Liberal flip-flop candidate makes you squirm.

Here is your Liberal candidate on Twitter hours ago:

Great job on @donlemon tonight @kayleighmcenany @cherijacobus begged us for a job. We said no and she went hostile. A real dummy! @CNN— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 3, 2016

Are you proud to support an abuse Liberal creep who calls a job applicant a beggar?

We now know that was a convenient fabrication.

Goldman Sachs ( where Heidi, his wife, is a big executive)...... was very helpful

Think about that, Jedi (laughing at myself here- as if the stiffnecked ever think about anything once their mind is made up)

Both Perot & Trump built great fortunes for themselves. They didn’t do that by being foolish.

We keep electing these wastefully extravagant men & women and then wonder why they wind up being so wastefully extravagant with our tax dollars AND are incessantly seeking more.

Why can’t we see that, to them, we are just a blank check?
WE are the foolish ones (or some of us are).

The Ted & Rubio donors and voters are confused now at what to do.

I don't know about Rubio supporters, but I don't think Cruz supporters are confused at all. Cruz should get a solid 2nd or 3rd in NH, especially with Paul now out of the race. He has plenty of money, and I'm sure his fundraising spiked after winning Iowa. And he already has his ground game built for the states between now and March 15, so he is not getting out any time soon.

Why invest mega-bucks and practically LIVE in weird IOWA when IOWA’s delegates are NOT a winner take all?

There are only about 12 states that have true "winner take all" contests. With your reasoning, why spend time in any of the 38 other states?

Hello.

YUGE difference between campaigning in states and practically LIVING in IOWA, which is what I wrote.

The winner, Senator Cruz, campaigned in all 99 counties and spent $700. per vote!

(I actually prefer these stats which are limited to Iowa:

Ted Cruz spent $6 million, mostly from outside groups.
Cruz earned 51,666 votes. 1 vote for Cruz = $116

CRUZ earned his win and earned his 8 delegates!

Mr. Donald Trump spent the least amount of money per vote: $300. and received 7 delegates for second place.

Again, I prefer these stats which are limited to Iowa:

Donald Trump spent $3.3 million, all from his campaign.
Trump earned 45,427 votes. 1 vote for Trump = $73.
What a bargain!

BTW
Marco Rubio spent $11.8 million, mostly from Super PACs.

Rubio earned 43,165 votes. 1 vote for Rubio = $273

Twitter screenshots exist.

When the CNN reporter Chris Moody said that Carson was quitting first hit twitter, both Trump and Rubio’s camps took part in it, but later deleted the tweets. (there ARE screen shots) Carson’s own communication director said after it was discovered there was a rumor, that it was ‘false media reports’... but then Carson’s ‘dirty politics’ remark hit the airwaves and everyone jumped on Cruz... not Trump or Rubio... who both tried to cover up their part in it by deleting tweets, Rubio even went on air and lied saying he’d ‘never’ do such a thing. The ONLY stand up guy in ALL this is Cruz, who admitted his people made a mistake and apologized.
