Sen. Ted Cruz said he would reconsider opening all ground combat positions to women if elected the next commander in chief.
Cruz promised to take another look at the administration's decision late last year to open all positions to women. The administration's move ignored a request from the Marine Corps to keep some frontline combat positions male-only after some studies showed women were more likely to be injured and perform worse.
"The Marine Corps request [for exceptions] must be reconsidered," Cruz wrote in response to a Center for Military Readiness survey released Sunday. "As long as the requirements are fair and universally applied, the military must always place the best person for the job at hand, whether male or female, but we cannot let political correctness compel the military to lower its standards."

Women have been in combat areas. Not as front line fighters. Not drafted. Tgey even get pulled in after resigning their commission and so forth if they are still under their original reserve commitment. But even that is volunteer
I don't think those guys weigh 175 lbs. :
Especially with their kit.
sure because that is how we fight now?
how many US pows taken in past decades? a few dozen?
women die in Afghanistan, so do men
Very sad. A female COS who is a young mother gets her whole staff blown up by Afghan suicide bombers. So sad
We need the best brains we have right now to employ our war technology, that is how we fight now. Can’t hold 1/2 the population held back because of hypotheticals based on Pork Chop hill scenarios
Ted is way behind the reality making this type of statement. It will get HIM killed - in the next election
Two issues Ted
The economy and the economy
Will drive everything else
immigration and absorption of illegals
national defense spending
Budget balancing
Ending or curbing social chaos
Show us your track record Ted
Stop blathering about what a POTUS cannot change and is not charged to change by the delegated powers of the Constitution, if that is your lawyerly strength then run on it and stop pandering about empty promises on social issues and lying about your opponents
While I agree with that it’s more complicated then just a gender issue. Higher rates of injury. Negative impact on discipline. A whole host of other issues exist which make it a bad idea.
If we continue to make it about women don’t belong there we will lose.
That's what "they" said in 1950.
Then we fought a war in Korea. "They" were wrong".
Then we fought a war in Viet Nam. "They" were wrong.
Now we're fighting a war in Jihadistan. "They" are STILL wrong.
The blood and $#!+ and dirt of war haven't changed since Sargon the Great slogged through mesopotamia ...
Wars are still won by killing people and breaking their things.
Let me guess silverleaf...Chair Force?
Are you seriously arguing that physically demanding ground combat is just a hypothetical?? That lugging 130lb artillery rounds by hand, or carrying/wearing huge loads while being required to move rapidly with crew served weapons while bullets are flying is a myth?
I have some friends I'd love to introduce you to so you can discuss your theories of warfighting.
Unbelievable. That's the kind of ill-informed crap I'd expect to see written in the New Yorker, not Free Republic.
Female soldiers are a good psy-opp against muzzies but an American female soldier held as a prisoner is a good one against us.
The idea that men aren't out there fighting and dying while engaging in the kind of combat he/she thinks no longer exists is both insulting and ignorant.
the small number of elite units that are and should remain all male is such a pittance in the overall capability of our military it is almost laughable for a candidate right here, right now, to spend time making this kind of statements
how about Tedly addressing the crippling politically correct ROE issued by our potus and his pentagon lackies that went along with it, and how many people it has killed
How about addressing why we have had so many operational failures like SEAL Team 6 loss and had so many sensitive operations compromised even by Biden and US Senators?
How about addressing Obama’s drone war assassinations all over the middle east, Yemen and Pakistan and the IS sympathizers it is recruiting? How about addressing why the small-p potus is releasing unrepentant enemy combatants from GITMO to kill other people’s sons and daughters he has ordered into war?
How about addressing loose cannon McCain and other dumbo politicians flying below the radar with their self aggrandizing forays into Ukrainian and Syrian politics to run us into a proxy war against Russia?
How about addressing why we have 4,000 troops again in combat now in Iraq (twitting the Russians by refusing their offer to coordinate operations). Why boots on the ground in Syria and Libya? Where is the congressional oversight of this? When did they take a vote on this?
Who has time for this “women shouldn’t be SEALS” crap when the ship of state is being steered onto the shoals of WW3?
THAT is what I consider a military priority issue
she
No women in ground combat roles
Re-instate DADT: no open homosexuality
Disband DACOWITS
No women in submarine service
End the use of biofuels for political reasons: go with lowest-cost providers
No funding for anything related to 'climate change'
And many others!
Except that it is not "just a small pittance of elite units". It includes standard front line infantry, armor, combat engineer, and artillery units. That is the core striking power of the Army and Marine Corps, the reason for their very existence.
And after all these years, even though we've developed the means to blow the world to hell like civilized gentlemen ...
The real killing and breaking still gets done up close and personal, the old fashioned way.
Why are you hyperventilating? Cruz was answering questions on a survey on military readiness, and this was one of the questions. So far, Trump cannot even be bothered to respond.
alright Bruce, tell me when and where in what theater we are going to repeat Normandy and Inchon and I’ll agree to consider the argument that the ladies need to get out of the military and come home and work the factories and farms- by presidential decree
This was a survey sent to all of the candidates by the Center for Military Readiness. The term "reconsider" was in the question itself, so you would need to talk with the people who wrote the survey.
sounds like a plan!
So far Trump has not bothered to respond to the survey.
