The seemingly endless presidential campaign finally gets real Monday, with Iowa voters heading to the polls for the state's caucuses.
The candidates blitzed the Hawkeye State in a final push Sunday, making public demonstrations of their faith and getting in their last jabs.
Both the Republican and Democratic races are considered up for grabs, with the winners certain to get a burst of momentum.
In a show of solidarity with the evangelical Christians who dominate the GOP caucuses, Donald Trump began the day at a nondenominational church in Council Bluffs with his wife, Melania.
Melania Trump took Communion from a silver tray, but Trump thought it was a collection plate and reached into his pocket to donate before realizing his mistake.
"I thought it was for offering," he said later with a laugh.

Not to excuse the Donald’s liturgical wiftiness, but this confusion would be utterly unthinkable in a denomination that treated Communion with reverence.
To wit, Communion Sunday at an AME church...(fast forward to 6:20)

Communicants receive at an altar rail. Kneeling. None of this “pass the plate” business.

Our Communion service has a cup holder along with a bread holder all in one item, in both the Methodist and Assembly of God churches we attend. We are a dual religion couple and alternate attendance to satisfy both of us. The Communion plate is the same in both churches. Offering plate is totally different and done at different times in the service so it is clear to those who are listening what is going on.

Sincerity is not a priority with you, is it?
And if you're going to channel Tennessee Ernie, it's "pea-pickin'".

"Is this a joke?"Yes, Trump's 'conversion' is, indeed, a joke.

Trump should be burned at stake for not being Christian enough and Cruz should be burned at stake for being too Christian? I give the hell up. MY ADVICE TO ALL THAT AREN’T HAPPY WITH THEM, GO AND VOTE FOR HILLARY (or Biden when he jumps in.) I could not possibly make up how stupid all this political rancor has been. GOD help us.

I don't think I have ever been in a church where communion is before the offering. I've yet to be in a church where you stand in line for your offering and have communion passed down the aisles. Trump was in an environment that was a total mystery to him and it showed.

"...It's called "cognitive dissonance."
That's when you're faced with the truth that The Donald is not who he's been saying he is.
It's difficult. I pray you follow the facts..."
Incorrect. I support both Donald Trump *AND* Ted Cruz.
That is dual support I have posted here countless times...as can be seen in my posting history.
Either of them will be a better POTUS than Hillary C., Joe B., Bernie S., Elizabeth W., or Martin O.
I would love to see Donald Trump and Ted Cruz on the same ticket.

It sure came off as pandering, to me....
Cruz gives off a feeling of desperation with the things he's doing lately.

Sounds more like self depreciating humor from Trump than a cringe worthy gaffe...

Trump could drag a baby across broken glass and there are folks that would say, “Awwww, the Donald is so compassionate. He only dragged the baby a three feet rather than the whole way...what a great guy.”

Funny.
Muscle memory. I work on that when on the shooting range. Repeating the movement develops it.

I support both Donald Trump *AND* Ted Cruz.
Last evening, I suggested to my lovely young bride that we role-play that we are residents of Iowa and which would we vote for at the Monday caucus. We really couldn't decide yet.

I totally concur with your sentiment.

You don’t stand in line for communion in my church - it is passed by the same ushers who earlier have passed the offering baskets.

Donald Trump or Ted Cruz will make a far superior POTUS as compared to our other choices of Hillary C., Joe B., Bernie S., Elizabeth W., or Martin O.
