The seemingly endless presidential campaign finally gets real Monday, with Iowa voters heading to the polls for the state's caucuses.
The candidates blitzed the Hawkeye State in a final push Sunday, making public demonstrations of their faith and getting in their last jabs.
Both the Republican and Democratic races are considered up for grabs, with the winners certain to get a burst of momentum.
In a show of solidarity with the evangelical Christians who dominate the GOP caucuses, Donald Trump began the day at a nondenominational church in Council Bluffs with his wife, Melania.
Melania Trump took Communion from a silver tray, but Trump thought it was a collection plate and reached into his pocket to donate before realizing his mistake.
"I thought it was for offering," he said later with a laugh.

And yet Trump cultists will still adamantly declare that Trump is a Christian.
There just isn’t much evidence that Trump knows Christ, let alone Christian culture and ceremony.
“Do not judge,” the Trump cultists will say. As they damn Cruz for quoting Scripture.
It’s called “cognitive dissonance.” That’s when you’re faced with the truth that The Donald isn’t who he’s been saying he is. It’s difficult.
I pray you follow the facts.
Just a Southern mountains country guy’s idea of a humorous FR post. Seemed appropriate response but flew over your head. My bad. Going back to sleep now. And thanks for your kind religious retort.
On the contrary, it shows generosity.
Even when he screws-up it backfires on opponents.
It's not like Trump was trying to deliver a sermon at his rally, like Cruz.
I'll take a mistake of collection plate vs Communion plate. Clearly he wasn't looking at it before he reached into his pocket or he would've seen the bread on the tray.
This is a non issue.
Nothingburger.....
.....you all are grasping at straws
I recently attended a church and during Communion they didn’t hand out baskets of bread ( like my church)
Instead they passed tiny Communion glasses of juice.....( where was the bread)
A tiny wafer was found in a separate glass underneath the juice glass....that was their way of doing it
Who knew?
I sure wouldn
I don't think I have ever been in a church where communion is before the offering.
The church of my childhood had silver offering plates. Back in those days, I don't think too many churches had to worry that someone would take out instead of putting in. Times change.
Thats more how I am seeing it.
“And we also have Cruz going over the top with his, “AWAKEN THE BODY OF CHRIST!” yesterday.”
Either Cruz is a disgusting pandering POS (like every other politician out there), or some kind religious zealot who doesn’t deserve to be in office.
I’d bet on the former.
Well! He just lost my vote.
Is this a joke?
Not much room for sarcasm in only two words. Sorry if I misinterpreted it. I stated to post GIB (Google it b!tch) but that seem way to harsh. Paten is not a commonly used word, but is easy to find. If it's any consolation my reply was actually posted with a kind smile. :)
PS
Oh....and God bless you Mr. Trump for going to church on Sunday
Mainstream media and politicians are in full blown panic now over Trump. He must be winning???
We practice communion (1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
We celebrate the Lord's Supper each Sunday, as we find the New Testament Christians did. In partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, we remember our Lord's sacrifice for us, and we strengthen our relationship with Him.
Trump’s First Communion! It warrants a party and gifts.
