Donald Trump: 'Ted Cruz is a total liar'
CNN ^ | 4:41 PM ET, Sun January 31, 2016 | Jeremy Diamond

Posted on 01/31/2016 3:13:35 PM PST by drewh

Donald Trump on Sunday repeatedly slammed his chief presidential rival Sen. Ted Cruz as a "total liar" as the Texas senator and his allies have claimed in the final stretch to the Iowa caucuses that Trump favors government-run, universal health care.

Cruz, meanwhile, pressed forward Sunday with the line of attack, proclaiming: "A vote for Donald Trump is a vote for Obamacare."

"Look, Ted Cruz is a total liar. I am so against Obamacare. I've been saying it for two years in my speeches, I'm going to repeal and replace Obamacare," Trump said on ABC's "This Week." "I don't even know where he gets this."

Trump on Sunday strongly pushed back at Cruz and his allies' claims that he supports government-run, universal health care, noting that he says in nearly each campaign speech he gives that "Obamacare is a total disaster" and that he would "repeal and replace" Obama's signature health care law with something "terrific."

You haven’t, but others have.

I simply want to know whether or not you want to see my reasons, or at least are willing to. Not as part of a flame war and not as part of any kind of manipulation. I’ll even Freepmail ‘em to keep the peanut gallery away.

“Look. Everybody knows where Hillarycare, or Romneycare, or Obamacare, or Trumpcare, must ultimately lead. Single payer government run medicine.”

I do not. Nor do a great many posters on this thread.

Trump has repeatedly said that he will repeal Obamacare.

Insisting that he will put in socialized medicine in its place is just fear tactics.

What would you accept as a statement from him to show otherwise?

Show us a statement by Cruz that convinces you, so we know what you want from a candidate on this.

On his recent 60 Minutes appearance Trump specifically stated that for most health insurance would be private.

‘But for the most it’s going to be a private plan and people are going to be able to go out and negotiate great plans with lots of different competition with lots of competitors with great companies and they can have their doctors, they can have plans, they can have everything.’

[Not responsible for Breitbart’s title. How it can be private healthcare for most and still be considered single payer is a contradiction/conundrum presumably only Breitbart could unravel.]

“Remember before Obamacare was forced on us- We had great, (not perfect), healthcare-far better than any place where “everybody is covered” and “the government” pays for it.”

Nope. Everyone was covered. Because the government (taxpayers) paid for those who were not covered by insurance, or could not pay for themselves, after they ran out of assets.

Trump is just suggesting a saner version of what existed before.

I know of at least six men in Canada who died of prostate cancer that would still be alive if they were in an HMO in the U.S.

Really. You know "of" them. Well I personally know three men who live near me who have been recently diagnosed with prostate cancer and have been successfully (and timely) treated for it. They are all now cancer free. Anyone can dig up horror stories about any health care in any country if they try hard enough. Well, except for the United States, of course.

I don’t support Cruz.

Trump’s proposal is socialized medicine. It’s really simple. Concerning those who say it isn’t socialized medicine, one of three things must be true: they are completely blinded by their partisanship, or, they are completely ignorant on the subject, or, they are flat out lying.

Lots of people will believe Trump because they've been listening to his speeches

Just like a lot of people believed Obama because they listened to his speeches.

“4. The indigent will be taken care of by the tax payer.”

Show us where Ted Cruz has said “The indigent will not be taken care of”

Then I might find your remarks persuasive.

No candidate has said that they will not be taken care of because they cannot be elected with that line, nor is it politically feasible to expect to pass such a law.

The indigent has been taken care of by the government for several generations in the U.S.

Support for a program to not give them care is likely down in the single digits, if that high.

Somebody show me the enumerated power from the Constitution for Obama’s socialized medicine, or Trump’s proposed socialized medicine. Show me where it is legitimately the federal government’s job to, as Trump says, “take care of everybody.”

Is this America’s premiere conservative website, or another left-wing website?

I agree that is exactly what Trump is suggesting. I thought it was pretty good before OCare. And if they allow you to purchase across state lines the premiums will be better.

quote “I am so against Obamacare. I’ve been saying it for two years in my speeches, I’m going to repeal and replace Obamacare”

The left hates Obamacare too.. and wants to replace it with Single Payer.

What does Trump want to “replace” it with? something “great” I am sure.

I simply want to know whether or not you want to see my reasons, or at least are willing to.

You can go ahead and post your reasons on an appropriate thread, and ping me to your post, and I'll see them. But I'll tell you in advance, I've been watching Trump for the past six months, and my opinion of him keeps getting lower and lower. He'd be way down my list of possible candidates.

“So, you are saying the progressive tax code determines the cradle-to-grave entitlements.”

Yes...

For example... The year my son graduated from college he had a appendicitis. He was not on my insurance any more and had no insurance. He was indigent... They fixed him up and the county paid for it. He had to sign a paper stating he would reimburse them when he could. It was something like 6K.

Two years later when he brought them their check they had no process in place to accept the money. They finally accepted it...

The indigent have to be taken care of. Donald is right.

Now apologize or prove yourself a liar.

“Somebody show me the enumerated power from the Constitution for Obama’s socialized medicine, or Trump’s proposed socialized medicine. Show me where it is legitimately the federal government’s job to, as Trump says, “take care of everybody.”

There isn’t any, friend.

The progressives have used an abominable interpretation of the Commerce Clause to get there.

We cannot take it back in one swoop. To do so we need to eliminate Social Insecurity, Medicare, a whole host of federal agencies.

I do not see any of the candidates doing that, so why are you picking on Trump, who at least is attacking the root of the problem, which is the media cartel.

To expect any of the Candidates to push for strict constructionism, which includes the destruction of Socialist Insecurity and Medicare, is naive.

None of the candidates are doing that. You are focused on Trump, for some reason, probably tactical, but this is not a valid argument.

It is not valid for practical, pragmatic reasons. It does not lead us back toward a limited government.

I like Cruz better for his Constitutional stands; I would certainly take Trump for his ability to crack the media cartel.
