There was a story published a couple of years ago in a noteworthy publication that described the inner workings of a process to ship billions of dollars in hard currency to Iraq after the U.S. toppled the Ba'athist regime in 2003. I found the story fascinating because one of the Federal Reserve facilities described in the article was located not far from where I live.

After reading this story I started understanding the links between a lot of political and financial events in the U.S. over the last decade -- including the financial collapse in 2007-08.

Nothing would ever surprise me when it comes to the way the U.S. government conducts business around the world.

This story would more likely pass as a creative work of fiction. Sadly it is reality.
