INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jan. 29, 2016) - Gun purchases increased dramatically on and after Black Friday, and now sales of gun silencers are surging. The technical term for a silencer is a suppressor.
Gun shops owners around Indianapolis say they're seeing an uptick in suppressor sales.
"Last month we probably sold two or three suppressors, this month we've probably had six," said Brian Ludlow, owner of Indy Trading Post.

Why go to Chicago, we’ve got plenty of them here. Texans are worried about Californians invading? Illinois is on our border. Michigan at the top, and Ohio to the east. Kentucky is a mix.
Build that those walls!
We aren’t supposed to be able to do that *inside* the country.
They sell an adapter to use an automobile oil filter as a silencer. Look it up on YouTube. Works really well.
Suppressors should really come off the NFA listings. They were only put on to reduce poaching during the depression and honestly, they are a practical safety device for shooters.
I’ve always wanted a suppressor for my car gun since I can only image the long term hearing damage if I had to shoot a carjacker across my body inside the car.
The funny thing for me is that it is the local sheriff who makes things difficult since he requires any NFA item be stored in a safe bolted to the floor in an inner room with no windows with a deadbolt lock on the door. He’ll approve a Form 4 for anyone who can show he has that safety, but that pretty much locks out people who rent.
Thank GOD they called it a SUPPRESSOR and not a SILENCER.
Now we need offset oil filters....
Pistol, revolver or semi-automatic?
When you say it worked, do you mean noise was suppressed and accuracy didn’t suffer?
Can’t for the life of me figure out how that works. Long time ago, I put a 2L bottle against the muzzle of my Ruger wheel gun. OK, I could see cutting a slot for the front sight, but...then...what. Can’t sight it on a target. Any video around showing how to? Til I see evidence, I’m filing this with the potato silencer. That works if you put it in sock and swing hard.
Serious question, BTW.
Yes you need finger prints, 2x2 photo and Chief Law Enforcement Certifiation that you are good doobie; unless you transfer to a gun trust...and only until July 13th when the new ATF Regulation 41F goes into effect. Get ‘em while they’re hot!
New Jersey Silencers
I love gun stuff. But having been privileged to use several “suppressed” pistols and rifles I can say that they aren’t all that impressive in my experience. Definitely look cool and maybe that reason enough. Oh well, I would rather spend the money on ammo or another firearm and just wear ear protection.
Suppressors should be required on all guns sold in America, and the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, Explosives, Christmas Sweaters, Saddles for Small Ponies, Shoe Polish for Expensive Italian Shoes, Fingernail Clippers that Don’t Work As Well As Advertised, Air Fresheners with A Piney Woods Scent, Typewriters, Products that Combine Constipation Relief and Odor Free Kitty Litter and Cameras that Will Not Take Pictures of Clouds or Termites in Late August of Leap Years should not be in the business of having any sayso over sound suppressors.
I live in the good old U.S. or A. and pay the Pittman-Robertson tax on each gun and cartridge that I buy. I am aware of the tax. Apparently you are not.
Pittman-Robertson Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act was established in 1937 for federal aid in wildlife Restoration Act. It in itself is a good tax used for a good purpose, but hidden from view to customers like you. It is charged directly to the manufacturers of firearms and ammunition and simply passed on through the retail distribution system to you. You pay many such hidden taxes, some of which are not well intended. Look at your phone bill sometime to see how many partially hidden taxes that you pay.
Are you aware of the additional tax and paperwork required to legally purchase/transfer a suppressor?
Because that is the paperwork and tax I was referring to.
Ammunition I can purchase without even producing an ID (one of the advantages of being at an age where no one asks for proof of age).
Not so a suppressor. Better documented than a 4473, and submitted in advance. There may be a BATFE master file on the 4473s, but there is definitely one on suppressor owners.
And yes, I have looked at my phone bill and seen the taxes and fees on that. But that is another string of swearwords...
But of course! It was $200 for my suppressor, the same as for my Model 1928 Thompson Sub Machine Gun.
Accuracy? You be the judge:
