Of all the many things said about Donald Trump, what was said by Roger Ailes, head of the Fox News Channel, said it all in just two words: "Grow up!"
It is amazing how many people have been oblivious to this middle-aged man's spoiled brat behavior, his childish boastfulness about things he says he is going to do, and his petulant response to every criticism with ad hominem replies.
He has boasted that his followers would stick by him even if he committed murder. But is that something to boast about? Is it not an insult to his followers, if it is true? Moreover, his cockiness is misplaced, because he still does not have a majority among Republican voters, while you need a majority of all the voters to win any state in the general election.
Trump has a showman's talent for telling people what they want to hear. But you can listen in vain for a coherent argument from him, based on facts and logic, much less an understanding of the inherent limitations of the office of president.
More than two centuries ago, Edmund Burke said: "Constitute government how you please, infinitely the greater part of it must depend upon the exercise of the powers which are left at large to the prudence and uprightness of ministers of state."
In other words, the personal character of the people to whom you entrust the powers of government matters even more than what kinds of government institutions there are. There have been some good kings and some bad presidents, as well as vice versa.

Or, barrel factory
We can find the wisest theory but until we get a firebrand it can’t go anywhere.
Yes, a word not found these days.
Let’s cut to the nub of this because it isn’t at all complex: For 30 YEARS America is starved for someone who will dispense with the tired, used up boilerplate PC weak tea political speech that give us gutless eunuchs who move a generally leftist anti America agenda as all else languishes. ONLY Donald Trump strode up to the microphone, called an effing spade an effing spade and then smashed the resulting PC outrage down the throats of the cynical liars who have been using it to get THEIR way for longer than we can all recall. The fact that a Donald Trump can be taken seriously is the measure of the straits America is in. I like Cruz.I I sent Cruz money, but even he was being careful and to a certain extent respectful of prevailing PC sensibility. ONLY Donald Trump stepped up, hauled out his broadsword and started hacking sonsabitiches. Period. Thank a generation of starvation for the frenzy produced by a guy who simply said what WE would have said as plainly as we would have said it.
Remarkable.
Trump is unwittingly pulling back the curtain.
We are discovering political allegences through intentional torchered logic.
So called stalwarts of conservative thought and opinion revealed as nothing more than establishment staff writers.
Thomas Sowell was a surprise, but nothing surprises me anymore. Hell, David Limbaugh lost his mind this week.
Thank you Mr. Trump.
How people react to rudeness is one measure of where they are. Do they try to be sensible just the same? Do they allow that even the rude person might have a point, if badly expressed?
All the non-Conservatives will tell us all this guy is not a Conservative.
Rope.
Neck.
Tree limb.
(some assembly required)
Another day, another infantile screed from people who should know much better.
Sorry Dr Sowell your candidate sucks so bad that you are reduced to these sort of infantile personal attacks in place of reasoned intelligent commentary.
But if only the opportunity to disagree with greatness were more frequent...
Yes, and though like you I disagree it doesn't change my views of the brilliant Dr. Sowell.
Or socks for mouths.
Wow he sure spends a lot of time on twitter insulting people.
Itâs spot-on.
You have read it, that is good enough for me.
Just one more attempt to pile on Trump. I wish I still had our parakeet. I would print this out to line the bottom of his cage.
Many republican voters clearly see the republican establishment as more of a threat than Trump. They should consider the implications of that.
I have to say I am disappointed in Dr. Sowell, whom I have always admired. Why at his age he had to reduce himself to joining the anti-Trump bandwagon is beyond me. He’d have done well to remain above the fray.
That statement is a lie... all donations went to the Trump Foundation... who in it’s history had given less than $60,000 to Veterans Groups... and over $100,000 to the Clinton Foundation.
All your donations did was allow Trump to shelter another few million of his and his friends money tax free.
Fox ratings were higher than the last debate... reversing a trend and out did the Trump infomercial by 4 to 1.
If there was ever a case of pot/kettle.
The first press release was about as unprofessional as you get, then their rush statement to CNN in response to Trumps interview managed to make them look even more immature.
Is Beck helping them out too? LOL!!!
No, it isn't. To be tax-free the Veteran donations had to go through a 503B. There wasn't time to set one up, so it had to be a file within the Trump Foundation. The money is earmarked and the organizations it's going to are already listed. That's how someone was explaining it on FR yesterday
Those of you who will do anything to criticize Trump, whatever he does are getting on my nerves. Isn't even the cause of helping Veterans worth getting past your agenda, just for a day?
That’s my current thinking also.
I wanted to believe Cruz was the real deal. He’s no more trustworthy than Trump.
Trump has created/run lots of businesses. I believe he may have the financial acumen to help rein in the federal behemoth.
The thing that most dogs him is his “make a deal” approach. I don’t want that if it’s at any cost. We just got that with the Iran deal.
