Coarsener-in-Chief (Donald Trump)
City Journal ^ | January 28, 2016 | Heather Mac Donald

...

Trump is the most gratuitously nasty public figure that this country has seen in living memory. He is the very definition of a bully: at every opportunity to kick someone when he's down, Trump takes it, while shamelessly trumpeting his own dominance. Long after former Texas governor Rick Perry had withdrawn from the primary race, Trump was still sneering at Perry's glasses and intelligence during campaign rallies and gloating about how he had forced Perry's withdrawal. New York governor George Pataki held out longer in the campaign, but he was never a threat to Trump. Yet nearly every Trump stump speech still includes a mean-spirited reference to this nonentity. Trump followers defend his penchant for ceaseless, obsessive attack on the ground that he lashes out only when he has himself been criticized. But there is virtue in proportionality. Trump escalates a conventional campaign sally into the excuse for nonstop, self-aggrandizing war.

Trump is the embodiment of what the Italians call "maleducato"--poorly raised, ill-bred. Indeed, judging by the results, his upbringing seems to have involved no check whatsoever on the crudest male instincts for aggression and humiliation. Trump is unfailingly personal in his attacks. Nor is his comportment merely a refusal to be politically correct. Trump was on solid ground when he responded to Fox News's Megyn Kelly during the first Republican debate that he had no time for political correctness. A repudiation of political correctness means truth-telling, however. Trump's personal sneers are not truth-telling but merely the self-indulgent gestures of someone who makes no effort to control his desire to humiliate.

For all his accomplishments he’s defensive to a fault, which tells me he’s a very insecure man. Anyone who like that who feels a need to tell you how great they are has some serious issues.

Is there a “Donald Trump offended my tender sensibilities” ping list I can get on? These links are always good for a laugh.

I think he's a cagey fighter. With a lot of showman in the mix.

Even staunch Democrats and old school Republicans laugh out loud every time I bring up how Todd 'The Punisher' Poulton took down a heckler. :)

The President is first and foremost supposed to be a diplomat. He is the face of the United States of America. I was proud to have Ronald W. Reagan as the face of America and I was sure as heck a lot more proud to have GWB be the face of American than the clown who replaced him.

Donald Trump is not diplomatic in any sense of the word. When I look through history and see how regal a leader George Washington was and how he commanded the respect of not only the American people, but the whole world, I weep that we have sunk so low that we are willing to put a megalomaniac, narcissistic demagogue into office and then re-elect him and then we are poised to replace him with someone who is just as much a megalomaniac, narcissistic demagogue, if not more.

Donald Trump does not have a conservative bone in his body. He is a self promoting windbag who will say anything to close a "deal" and he is poised to close the deal on America. But what is the "deal"? Build a wall and get Mexico to pay for it? Really? You actually believe that?

Make America Great again? How exactly? It is a nice sentiment, but can he do it?

Is he going to order companies to raise wages, banks to loan to questionable borrowers, manufacturers in foreign countries to move their facilities to the US?

Has he proposed any concrete ideas on how to "Make America Great Again"? Does he plan to shut down the Energy and Education Departments? Will he shut down NPR? Will he shut down Planned Parenthood?

Does he oppose Roe V Wade? Will he make overturning Roe v. Wade a litmus test for Judges?

My take is that he will be more than happy to go with the status quo.

A man who would contribute money to the election and re-election campaigns of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Bill and Hillary Clinton is not a conservative and has no intention of turning the country to the right.

You people are being fooled. You are buying the snake oil and what you don't realize is that not only does the snake oil do nothing good for you, it is poison.

But People will buy anything as long as it gives then HOPE!

HOPE, that is what Obama Promised. Trump promises THE WALL.

God Help America!

Isn’t that the truth.

Years of these wannabe tough guys moaning about the GOP never taking the gloves off, or their big talk of civil war and revolt, and they sit hear b*tching like little wusses because Trump says things that make their tummy hurt.

Because he is crude and rude and has no manners at all? Is this what our country has devolved into? You can be plain and serious without trying to insult people all the time.

My suggestion is to read more detailed books on presidents.

All of that fluffy stuff you talk about is the stuff little kids read about.

People like Andrew Jackson or Truman, and many others were not like those robot presidents at Disney World.

“Make America Great again? How exactly? It is a nice sentiment, but can he do it?”

“Has he proposed any concrete ideas on how to “Make America Great Again”? “

Well put it to you this way, has Cruz given us a detailed plan as to how he is going to “restore the constitution”? O sire haven’t heard any, bit his supporters are telling me it’s as good as done....because reasons.
