Trump is the most gratuitously nasty public figure that this country has seen in living memory. He is the very definition of a bully: at every opportunity to kick someone when he's down, Trump takes it, while shamelessly trumpeting his own dominance. Long after former Texas governor Rick Perry had withdrawn from the primary race, Trump was still sneering at Perry's glasses and intelligence during campaign rallies and gloating about how he had forced Perry's withdrawal. New York governor George Pataki held out longer in the campaign, but he was never a threat to Trump. Yet nearly every Trump stump speech still includes a mean-spirited reference to this nonentity. Trump followers defend his penchant for ceaseless, obsessive attack on the ground that he lashes out only when he has himself been criticized. But there is virtue in proportionality. Trump escalates a conventional campaign sally into the excuse for nonstop, self-aggrandizing war.
Trump is the embodiment of what the Italians call "maleducato"--poorly raised, ill-bred. Indeed, judging by the results, his upbringing seems to have involved no check whatsoever on the crudest male instincts for aggression and humiliation. Trump is unfailingly personal in his attacks. Nor is his comportment merely a refusal to be politically correct. Trump was on solid ground when he responded to Fox News's Megyn Kelly during the first Republican debate that he had no time for political correctness. A repudiation of political correctness means truth-telling, however. Trump's personal sneers are not truth-telling but merely the self-indulgent gestures of someone who makes no effort to control his desire to humiliate.

If Donald Trump really gave a sh!t about any of those things, then why has he waited until he’s 70 years old before he mounts his first campaign to get himself into a position to do anything about it? He could have done a lot of good as mayor of New York City or governor of New York State in the meantime, couldn’t he?
P.S. -- I have no idea what that's supposed to mean.
Your language.
Probably out of respect for his family he has built up to this time, knowing that he would be attacked mercilessy, just as he is now experiencing, and they would be affected. The older kids are now in their 30s and are well capable of handling the business; and his younger children are up and going -- Tiffany is in law school and Barron is around 9 years old. He and Melania have had a good chance to spend time with him.
Have a look around the web site of the Trump Organization. Being POTUS would be a step down and a great personal sacrifice; many think his run is just ego; but he has a lot to lose, as you will see if you take a good look. There are some good videos of his children at the link called "The Next Generation."
You may have heard him mention that he has often given money to people running for office; or his prank early in the campaign of having people call Lindsay Graham on the phone because he had his number on a scrap of paper, saying Graham had just been in to ask him for money. Those large donations have given him the opportunity to sit down and talk with many lawmakers and policy people; and he has written 15 best-selling books, three of which are his ideas about what the country needs: The America We Deserve, Time to Get Tough, and Crippled America.
Here is a video of him testifying before the U.S. Congress 25 years ago regarding regulations affecting real estate development, the construction industry as a whole, and even low-income housing.
One President used a plump intern for a human humidor and nothing course about that, nope.
When did Trump propose that?
He also says in his testimony that he was invited to testify before Congress by the chairman of that committee. The chairman was Frank Guarini of New Jersey -- a Democrat.
It is clear nobody has studied the Presidential politics of the 19th century. Trump is a light weight.
OK, your question was why hasn’t he gotten involved before, which I amply answered, so your reply is another whine that he’s doing it wrong. Here, have a tissue.
Maybe he never ran for public office because he was afraid he would lose. I have no idea if that's true -- but it's as sound an answer as what you posted.
How could being POTUS be a "step down" by your standards, if Michael Bloomberg -- who I believe is a lot wealthier than Donald Trump -- wasn't above serving for 12 years as the mayor of New York City?
You just love to argue. Even if it’s pointless, like this one.
You’re probably right. LOL.
