A Maryland high school punished a student for refusing to profess faith in Islam, gave her failing grades for a series of assignments that violated her Christian beliefs then threatened her father with arrest for complaining, a federal lawsuit charges.
The suit was filed in U.S. District Court against the Charles County Public Schools in La Plata, Maryland, its board of education, Principal Evelyn Arnold and Vice Principal Shannon Morris by the Thomas More Law Center.

The lawsuit charges that the defendants' "curriculum, practices, policies, actions, procedures, and customs promote the Islamic faith by requiring students to profess the five pillars if Islam."
The students, the complaint says, were required to "write out and confess the shahada, the Islamic profession of faith."
The lawsuit charges that school officials concealed the curriculum by using two separate history textbooks, one of which contained the Islamic teachings and which students were required to leave at school. The other, which did not contain the teachings, was allowed to be taken home, the complaint explains. The school also excised the Islamic teachings from the course syllabus.

"Defendants have treated plaintiffs' Christian beliefs and heritage with deliberate indifference, and have been hostile toward C.W. [the student] and her family," the complaint alleges. It explains the Arnold and Morris violated the First and Fourteenth Amendments as well as state and federal law by "depriving plaintiffs and C.W. of their fundamental right to be free from a public school's promotion of certain religious beliefs, their fundamental right to be able to speak freely and raise concerns about religion being taught in our public schools without retaliation, and their fundamental right to be free from unjust discrimination against their Christian heritage."

They might just pull a “Houston” here, exonerate the defendants and prosecute the plaintiffs.
“In a perfect world, the people responsible for this type of garbage would get the hell beaten out of them.”
You mean the people:
Who vote the members of the Board of Education into office?
Who are qualified but don’t run for office on the Board of Education?
Who don’t go to Parent Teacher Association Meetings?
Who don’t go to Parent-Teacher conferences with their children’s teachers?
Who concede the public school system to the enemies of our society?
His prior service is irrelevant to this case. The teacher(s) and administrator(s) conducted themselves illegally; their acts of oppression and violation of constitutionally protected fundamental rights were wrong regardless of the nature of the victim and her parents. It would be just as outrageous if she was a juvenile delinquent with jailbird parents.
Government controlled schools don't belong in a free republic.
That Place is W - A - Y out of line.
The School Board and the #%&*s that selected the course all need to be Banished from the U.S. for LIFE. Send them to ISIS Land for LIFE.
Your “Tet, Take 2” explains this depressingly well.
Yes, quite worrisome.
I wonder when the school will have the kids recite the Nicene Creed . . . you know, for education purposes.
You mean the "separation of Christianity and state" crowd. :-)
Thanks for the ping. This should be fought.
Correction:
It is long past time for separation of **taxpayers** and schools!
Oh, I’m sure they have a *few* on the books already. If not, ONE has GOT to be ‘in the wings’.
I mean, just look at the recent PP fiasco in Texas; the ‘terrorists’ of ‘Federal lands’ the...
Govt wants to put a Citizen away, the iron fists has its ways.
Well, 1st question is: Whom allowed the theft of property for the implementation of ‘free’ education.
Kill the property taxes, return to a service oriented economy and you whittle down your list to almost nill.
What school district could compel their students to recite religious statements?? There is something missing from this story. This sounds too insane.
“Well, 1st question is: Whom allowed the theft of property for the implementation of âfreeâ education.”
In my community we’ve agreed to vote on such things and abide by the outcome of the vote. Sometimes one side wins the vote and sometimes the other side wins.
Apparently the sarcasm was missed.
I guess it’s a good thing a re-vote on the Constitution hasn’t happened in some communities. /I 1/2 kid
This isn’t some ‘general’ usage (fire [which I contend should be service/insurance oriented]) or even an ‘initial’ cost (parks). This is theft for the benefit of some (those with children) that SOME pay (property owners and more-so those WITHOUT children)...forever.
Some/a-lot-of times....the law is an @ss. But, put ‘FREE’ in the bill/title and you more that will vote for than against; though nothing of the sort exists.
You’re free to start a campaign to change things.
True. But as it’s been said, it’s hard to beat Santa Claus.
PING!
