The call from Lincoln High School’s principal’s office came unexpectedly, as they often do.

Cedrick Argueta’s friends joked that he might be in trouble. Cedrick didn’t think so.

He was right.

It turned out that Cedrick, the son of a Salvadoran maintenance worker and a Filipina nurse, had scored perfectly on his Advanced Placement Calculus exam. Of the 302,531 students to take the notoriously mind-crushing test, he was one of only 12 to earn every single point.

Well if they just took his score and redistributed it amongst his fellow students, he’d have a C or a C+, and that would be fair.

Oh gosh. I guess I might as well let everyone know that I am a senior from Lincoln high school who aced the AP Calculus Test. I just wanted to let everyone know so I don’t have to be questioned daily about it. I just don’t want to keep it a secret any longer that I am brilliant.

I took calculus. I never used in the real world. I have a friend who manages a TSDF in Binghamton. The first one to use calculus somehow, someway, takes the other one out for a beer.

In the real world I’ve never had to use calculus. Good thing I never took it.

Most of the kids in his school probably cannot pass Algebra I.

Most probably can't give you change without a machine to tell them how much...

I guess this means he can meet with Obama and get lots of free stuff from Microsoft.

Oh... Nevermind. You have to lie about building a clock to get all of that.

I do process controls and automation. I use calculus and algebra, and statistics just about every day.
