Trump's Iowa 'veterans' event will raise money for his own foundation

Trump's Iowa 'veterans' event will raise money for his own foundation as his campaign is coy about which organizations will benefit.

Donald Trump's highly publicized veterans fundraiser on Thursday night will benefit his own charitable foundation, DailyMail.com can reveal.

Ultimately, Trump's press secretary Hope Hicks said Thursday afternoon, 'the money will go to a number of Veterans charities and organizations.'

The campaign has been coy about which organizations will eventually see a cash infusion.

Trump tweeted on Thursday: 'It is my great honor to support our Veterans with you! You can join me now. Thank you! #Trump4Vets http://www.DonaldTrumpForVets.com.'

The link goes to a website run by the Donald J. Trump Foundation, which promises that '100% of your donations will go directly to Veterans needs.'

He told Fox News host Bill O'Reilly on Wednesday night that 'we're going to raise a lot of money for the veterans. A lot of money is going to be raised. A lot of people are going to be there, and I can do some good.'

This is rich. So, Trump is actually donating to his own foundation while claiming that it is going to veterans.

So did I. All these posts are very shrill. Sounds like a bunch defensive backs who just got burned for third time in one quarter. Ted sounds like he is hyperventilating and starting to sound more and more like Ross Perot. gheez Ted

Trump has a history of his support for the Military!

So long as someone else is providing the money. And someone is doing the serving.

I donated because I believe that Trump has the resources to find the best organizations who will use the money to help vets, not high paid administrators.

All evidence to the contrary. After all, back in September, he held a rally hosted by (and raising money for) Veterans for a Strong America, which had lost its non-profit status a month earlier.

Setting up a new nonprofit takes time and up to a year to get 501c3 status. Using an existing organization makes sense and is practical.

Structuring it this way likely means that Trump has no legal obligation to distribute the money to veterans groups. It could go to any charitable purpose.

Not true. If the donor designated a contribution for a specific purpose, the charity is required to use it for that purpose. It would be illegal for the charity to use funds given with restrictions by the donor for other purposes.

Yes, the two men are quite different. And only one of them is mentioned anywhere in this British newspaper article. That evil genius Cruz must have quite the reach to be able to influence a journal across the pond.

Bwa ha ha ha ha ha!!!! Almost as good as frikkin' sharks with lasers.

In order for donations to be classified as "restricted funds," the restriction must be explicitly designated by the donor. The donation page that Trump has set up does not contain any language stating that the donations will be used for a specific purpose, nor does it provide any space for a donor to list any such restrictions.

Donations made through the link are very likely "unrestricted funds" for the foundation.

Nevermind. I now see that they have added language to the donation page saying that the funds will be used for veterans. In that case, they are likely restricted funds, yes.
